I'd really like to try celestial warlock with barbarian.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.

I posted before that I very much love playing my beartotem circle of the moon mtn dwarf. But in my spare time have built a zealot barbarian paladin...Barbaladin can be super scary is all I will say. I think the way I see it you can divine smite in rage...plus extra zealot necrotic during rage...hmmm.
Our campain started in Pathfinder so the extra armor you got was just a "unarmored defence" buff wich wasnt relying on dex+wis.
So my idea was to play a bouncer without the real monk stuff and the DM agreed. So with those rules i made Brann.
A STR based Monk.
STR 18 DEX 14 CON 14 INT 8 WIS 18 CHA 9 (i rolled high :) )
Then we went for 5e so where i had a bit of a lower AC i could still play Brann pretty descent. With a AC of 15 (wich is a bit low but it is fine)
he has now MC-ed Monk lvl 6 to Barb lvl 1. He is going to be (probably but it depends on wich IC choices he makes) totem warrior.
Bear totem is (i think) the best and fits the Hulk Build i fitted him. Grappling and Sentinel feat incluided.
So Brann is a Grappling, jumping, throwing, kicking and punching character which (in the end lvl 3 barb 17 monk) has resistance to every kind of damage, proff in all saves, and kicks and punches 4x in a round with advantage plus the extra rage damage per attack. Potential 4d10+28 with all extra control abilities (stunning strike, sentinel, grappling, jumping e.t.c.)
thats positively deadly and potent, taking spells like armor of agathis and taking the gift of the ever living ones invocations and that is very op
That's what my Barbarian is minus Celestial pact. My Pact is a homebrew Dragon patron. The only problem is I just took Pact of the Chain/GotE before we stopped playing due to the pandemic so I haven't been able to use it yet.
I'm a huge fan of Barbarian / Warlock - the Undead Pact : Form of Dread is AMAZING with Rage... I focus more on utility spells for out of combat or pre-combat buffs (AoA, for example), and RP the heck out of it. Play up the spooky elements of your favorite patron, beat down when in combat... what's not to love?
Wild shape is a spell...so how can I rage and then WS?
Wild Shape is a class feature, not a spell, and does not require concentration. Wild Shape is described as magically turning you into a beast so a DM could get picky and say you can't Wild Shape while raging but RAW it is fine. Also Wild Shape explicitly states that you retain class feature while in animal form so a DM would have a hard time justifying being unable to Wild Shape and then Rage.
I'm not necessarily a fan of the barbarian/druid combo but it is a good combo.
Lvl 3 Barb 17 monk. Since lvl 5 is useless and lvl 17 monk is too strong.
Barbarian 3: Subclass Bear Totem= Resistance to all damage except force when raging.
Monk 17: Way of the open Hand= stunning strike, knocking someone prone, flurry of blows.
A higher level in monk gives more Ki points which you need for your special attacks. With the lvl 17 feature you can (when he fails the save) reduce someone to 0 hp, with succes 10d10 necrotic damage.
Furthermore Monk gives proff in all saves, you cant get older, immune poison and disease, aura of peace and you understand all languages.
Higher levels in Barbarian just doesnt give THAT much. Since brutal critical and a better rage just isnt that good. Since you can use like d12 weapons e.t.c.
So Barb 3 Monk 17 is the spot to be. I think i would go Barb at 1st and then 1 monk. Maybe go to monk 3 first and then 3 barb.
I imagine the scariest multiclass for a barb would be 9 totem barb/2 fighter/9 assassin rogue. You only really need three levels in assassin for the scariness, but you can grab more for extra damage and defensive features. For fighter, pick twf. For barb, pick up elk as your first totem for extra speed and wolf as your second totem for sneaking around more quickly. Wield two rapiers and pick dual wielder for one of your feats. Surprise your enemy and use your action surge for an extra action. Every single hit you make crits. For your first turn, charge up and make three weapon attacks (two from extra attack and one from twf). For your action surge, make make two weapon attacks with your extra attack. If the dude(s) is dead, run off to where people can't easily see you. If you have a cloak of invisibility and drank a potion of speed (add another attack), this is even scarier. If someone pulled this on my party, I would be shitting my pants.
If my math is right, you're doing 20d8 brutal crit with rapier damage + 10d6 sneak attack crit damage + 5x str mod damage + 15 rage damage in a single round if all your attacks hit. Yikes!
Both Rage and TWF use your bonus action. so you are either getting the rage damage or an extra attack on the suprise round; but not both.
Alternatively I would build it as half-orc 11 barb / 2 fighter / 3 assassin rogue / 3 gloom stalker ranger. Forget about the sneak attack damage and replace the 2 rapiers with a great axe. and great weapon master(gwm) feat for a -5 to attack to do +10dmg per attack. On the surprise round you are now doing 7 attacks with a Greataxe with 4D12+Str +10(gwm). Thats 28D12+35Str +70(gwm) +4d8 from dread ambusher all in 1 round of combat. OUCH!!!!
if you took the Orcish Fury Feat as well you can add 1 more D12 to it haha.
I made a Tortle that was 3 totem elk barb and 15 kensai monk. You dont have to worry about dex and went str, con and wis. He was a really fun character. Had the boots of speed, with a defender weapon. Use that +3 to add to defense then use sharpen the blade to regain that plus 3. Was the fastest tortle alive! Hahaha.
He is an old man that did that kool kung fu until he got wacked. Then the mighty elk spirit would release within him and rage mode would happen . I miss that character.

Woops. Yeah, a druid multiclass with those stats wouldn't work.
A fool pulls the leaves. A brute chops the trunk. A sage digs the roots.
My Improved Lineage System
TBH, I would either multiclass into the Rune Carver Fighter (coming out in Tasha's), or stay Bear Barbarian all the way.
Please check out my homebrew, I would appreciate feedback:
Spells, Monsters, Subclasses, Races, Arcknight Class, Occultist Class, World, Enigmatic Esoterica forms

How would you split the levels or barb and monk and why are these two option especially honorable?
Well you only have these two axes? What if you are out of axes?

What is "scariest "Barbarian multiclass? The A Barbarian-Undead Warlock obviously. It causes frightened once a turn on a hit.
Runner ups include Archfey Warlock and a high-level Fey Wanderer Ranger. :-P
Is a Aasimar Barbarian Paladin not stronger then? With smites, extra healing, extra damage?
Yes it is. You're a big, burly monstrosity with damage resistance.
Brains over brawn? Mind over matter? These canny warriors rightly answer, "Why not both?" - Tasha
