So the bard in question's link is below in my signature in yellow.
He's essentially undercover in the current Roll20 party posing as a female berzerker. The DM wanted me to attempt this endeavour a while back and so far, somehow, I'm pulling it off. The players have no idea. Its been maybe 5 or 6 sessions now. I've been using whispers to the DM for my spellcasting and creative descriptions of how my bardic inspiration is used, like just mumbling under my breathe or directly insulting the party members to get their asses into gear and the DM saying randomly "just roll a d8 as well" later on when they need it.
Soon, I'll want to reveal the true identity because as much as Im having fun playing playing a berzerker, Im not one and have come close MANY times to dropping. So far the berzerker rep is intact.
We just levelled up to lvl7 and Im looking at spell choices. The DM is letting me revamp my spell list now I've gotten a feel for the party and how I wanna play my PC. SO hit the link below and tell me what you reckon I should do spell wise.
The DM wanted me to play this character after joining the group after quite a while because he wants me to link a campaign narrative into their party. He's kinda like Varys and Little Finger from Game of Thrones rolled into one. Secret rooting, fear instilling, information gathering, unease making.
I'd like to play some kind of buffer/supporter as well. Im just getting lost in choice now, need some direction/focusing please. So click the link below and have a look. I must say I do have Charm Monster and the Instrument of the Bards: Bandore as well, I just haven't bought them yet.
Is there any point in taking Calm Emotions if Im happy to have countercharm up while concentrating on a spell?
Tongues is very situational but very thematic for his character, any thoughts? Ditch/not ditch?

I think your spell list looks really good. Depending on your play-style, I’d recommend suggestion, heat metal, and/or silence
Suggestion for the control in and out of combat.
Heat metal to cripple strong melee fighters (take away their best melee weapon or force them to take a bunch of damage every turn (or target their armor to keep dishing damage). Also doesn’t always have to be used in combat.
Silence for control and shut down spell casting. Can be used in and out of combat.
My Whispers bard had to distract a party of Orcs. He spent a minute telling a story about a group of Artificers who hunt ghosts in The Twice Named City. Their quest started in the library, but their first mission was in a grand hotel. The Artificers ended up doing more damage than the ghost had, and one of them got slimed. There was Duke who hated them and kept trying to convince the King to throw them into the dungeon. Eventually the city was attacked by a greater fiend and the King released the Artificers from the dungeon to defeat it. The Fiend asked if they were gods and one of them said “no” and the fiend almost threw them from the roof of the highest tower in the city. It then summoned a Gargantuan Confection Construct. The confection of choice being a human made treat made of whipped egg whites and sugar emulsified with an extract from a type of mallow plant found only in marshes....
When my bard’s companions stealth killed the last of the Orcs, his final words were “What’s... the end... of the story...?”
The only spell on your list that I am not a fan of is bane. I personally prefer faerie fire as a conc spell/buff there.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.

Absolutely agree and one up doot for you on that. Faerie Fire is one of my normal go to spells for spellcasters, but Im trying my best (almost begrudgingly so in this instance) to lean as hard as I can into the secret uncovering, concealing and cursing nature of the narrative I was handed with this character. Bane is one I can do in secret (thematically just giving them bad luck or sowing self doubt in their own abilities) compared to BOOM! NOW YOU'RE COVERED IN DAZZLE PRETTY FIRE!!! LOOK AT YOU SPARKLE AND SHINE! haha
But boy oh boy, it does feel wrong without it. hahaha

I keep my 4th slot as detect magic since I’m the only spell caster and obviously it’s important to detect magic (and determining schools of magic are important as well).

That is a brilliant idea! I never even read that spell. Thanks! The problem as always is what to swap out.

I like faerie fire as well, although one advantage of bane is you choose the three creatures. Whereas faerie fire covers an area, possibly more targets but if you are further down the turn order you can end up lighting up your party members who already engaged in melee. Happened to me numerous times with my Druid but I still keep it prepared.

Lol, I was going to suggest faerie fire as well but it’s so good I figured you must’ve had a good reason for not having it.
and of course dissonant whispers are definite must haves as well healing word

I would say that faerie fire links to uncovering stuff. My opinion.

The biggest problem with bane is that it allows a saving throw, on only three targets max.
