But at higher levels, we mighty casters do have multiple 4th level spells. Wait does wild shape only go for traditional beast type creatures? Or do giants count too (giant centipede, et cetera)?

it just erks me that you go from 2 uses only to UNLIMITED POWER !!!! in 20 . you know there is other numbers in between !!!! when you are stranded in the middle of a strong hold ... ALONE !! and time in the essence ! where a fellow team member might die soon and stuff like that when you are Fd !!!
and yeah Brown bear for now . Cave bear and Giant scorpion are JUICY :) ..... and freaking ELEMENTALS !!!
I was DMing a PotA and the PCs were captured in a tower and were to be thrown off the tower (and then saved by some aarakocra). Well, the druid thought to Wild Shape into a flying squirrel (he wasn't high enough level to change into a flying creature, but technically flying squirrels don't actually fly). I allowed it.
The other popular ones for him were Giant Spider for wall walking + web capabilities and Giant Elk for the charge attack (bonus damage + knocked prone)

I am currently playing a druid in Filcat's Storm Kings Thunder game and my go to is the Brown Bear, love multi attacking with what is the equivalent of both a greatsword and a longsword.
I have encountered a polar bear, and a giant ice toad along the road to luskan so those'll be fun once I get to CR 2 creatures.

You would think there be some type of progression, the only up side is that its a short rest to regain uses. Still annoying.

On the other hand, you do have full spellcasting.

well I wish they just introduced something like the sorcerer system Spell to Points to complement what the druid is Known for . instead of treating them into two different things . two uses only and you have to chose what to use them for either combat or utility and forgone all your spellcasting capability until level 18 .... its just too backend heavy .

I feel bad for druids. Their wild shape is weaker than my almighty polymorph. I get several uses per rest, and I'm a t-rex, so none shall hurt me.
Just an average metalhead who plays DnD in his spare time.
PbP Character: Roberta Thalan, Void Beyond the Stars Otherside
PbP Character: Primus Eidolon, Eotha 2
PbP Character: Usmor Illiqai, Tomb of Corrosion
PbP Character: "Templar" Danver, You're the Villains
Homebrew stuff
You could block up the walls and set a guard (many summon weak monster spells in 5e )

My Druid is the groups healer, so she does not use wild shape much, but I think that her favorite forms will be Giant Eagle, Giant Octopus and Tiger.
