So starting a new campaign soon want to do a swift stride shifter ranged battle master. Racial bonus is +2 dex +1 char. We are doing point buy. Curious what would make me most useful. I can get Dex and con pretty high. we get a free feat so I am starting with sharp shooter. Besides dex and con should i spec into char since I get a bonus in it or should I do int or something. The theme of my character is to be a bit spooky so i like having intimidation but we already have a bard and maybe a warlock not sure yet
I’d suggest wisdom for your next highest stat. It will help with perception, and failing a wisdom save is usually pretty nasty. And I often think of wisdom representing a solid tactical battlefield knowledge, which makes sense for fighters generally, and BMs specifically. You likely won’t need much str, you can just dump int altogether. Cha is nice, especially if you have a table that does a lot of rp.
As for skills, if something fits your character, take it. There’s no harm. Now, the bard and warlock will probably be better at it than you, so you might not get a chance to use it much, but that’s a pretty meta game reason. Take it if it will be fun.

Yeah, I’ll also suggest Wisdom for the skills (Survival / Perception), and the saving throws.

I try my best not to totally min max constantly but I like to be useful and not die in first round of combat. So i suppose wis is useful to do that
