So I decided to scrap my glamour/celestial build and make them separate classes.
I took inspiration from another player and built a celestial warlock that disguises herself as a cleric. So that means I won't be as powerful as a warlock because I try not to use Eldritch blast. At level 2 I took disguise self to look more like a cleric to hide my true nature (She's also a Tiefling that's on the run so she disguises herself as a human as well.) I also took Fiendish Vigor as that's something that a cleric can learn.
Now I'm debating what to do for level 3 between the chain and tome pact. Chain pact would be more for flavor and backstory of the character. Tome would be more powerful because I can learn fire bolt. Then by level 6, Fire Bolt can gain my CHA to damage. But then I'd still have to find a way to explain how a cleric can cast fire bolt.
Pact of the Chain would allow me to gain the 2 invocations that buff me and my invisible familiar. For me I can always get max healing. And for my familiar I can see through its eyes no matter where it is on my plane of existence.
Granted this doesn't really matter a whole lot as this is an AL character, but it feels nice for a change to have a decent background for my character that feels more than just stats on a paper.
Since you are trying to pass as a cleric why not claim to be a arcana domain cleric? That would explain why you have fire bolt as a cantrip and your knowledge about arcane and some arcane spells that are not available for wizards. you can even use eldritch blast claiming that it is a gift from your arcana god or goddess and only another arcana cleric of the god/dess you claim to be your patron might claim that is not the case; a wizard wouldn't know what your god granting to you another cleric might not know what your specific gods gifts to you either.
That's quite clever! Thanks for that! And that excuse can work regardless if I take pact of the tome or not. The reason for going pact of the chain would be two-fold.
Mechanics wise, I can always give myself full health with Gift of the Ever-living Ones, and my invisible familiar can feed me health potions. Only someone that can see invisible creatures would be able to see them. I can also use them to give me advantage with the help action if I choose to lie about knowing Eldritch blast.
Story wise, she has a daughter she is protecting. Having the familiar and the Voice of the Chain Master evocation allows me to communicate with her more easily as I can send my familiar to her long distance. Plus being able to secretly scout ahead along side say a rogue would be great roleplaying. My character is Lawful evil (the only way to play an evil character in AL) so she looks out for herself first and does what is necessary to protect herself above all others. Healing others is out of necessity to keep up her facade.
Finally, I'm trying to figure out how to pass off hellish rebuke as something a cleric can do... It's one of the warlock spells I'd like to take, especially since as a Tiefling I can cast it once a day. Currently I'm shying away from Hex as I also can't figure out a cleric reasoning for knowing that. Can't rely on the arcana god too much!
Probably whatever celestial entity became your patron done it out of correcting your ways and making you a proper person by granting you healing powers too :P
Yes. That too. She is on a personal path of redemption. She's just starting as lawful evil as she has done some pretty evil things in the past as a means to protect her daughter from being found out by those after her. I decided to choose Hecate as my "goddess" as she is the goddess of witchcraft and necromancy, a perfect cover for my Warlock. I'm still trying to finalize what celestial patron would look upon me and decide to help.
I’m playing a protector aasimar celestial tomelock, but took one level of life cleric. Her backstory is she was raised by a celestial for the first 15 years of her life, and loves nature and that comes in thematically with her cantrips. I made her so she can have an avatar/radiant protector feel. At fourth level she has EB, Creat bonfire, Prestidigitation, tome gives her mold earth, control flames, shape water, cleric gives mending, message, and gust. So she can mess with all the elements which also does good battlefield control. I also took mask of many faces and friends on later levels for the combined use of the interrogator who can magic anyone to comply and then face swap to normal so they don’t know it was me. I’m really loving it, and 18 ac never hurts
I recently started playing a celestial pact warlock with a single level in knowledge cleric. My idea was to play as a half-elf from a long lineage of elven divine sorcerers and clerics who worship and support Selûne goddess of the moon. However due to my half-elf parentage I failed to produce the same level of innate ability my house typically has. So instead I went off to university to study the multiverse. Selune is a Goddess of life and knowledge so I can at least worship her through my studies of the multiverse.
Theres some interesting lore that ties Pale Night (the mother of demons) into direct conflict with Selune and her pantheon; Pale Night tricks a consort of Selune into sending all Celestial Eldarin children to an abyssal plane where they are hunted by demons. And Pale Night likes to take the souls of those she hunts to add to her "gallery of souls" in her personal Abyssal plane. So my characters mother gets her soul taken, and no one believes me because Im the black-sheep half-elf of the family. But in my dreams Selune comes to me and forms a pact, since we both lost family to Pale Night, we'll work together to stop her and free our families souls from her tower.
Knowledge Cleric is front loaded with a lot of goodies a pact celestial warlock can make use of. You can get 2 doubled skill proficiencies to do with "knowledge" checks (I chose history and religion) useful when roleplaying, use of shields and medium armor, innately prepared identify spell, guidance cantrip, etc. Theres several lvl 1 ritual spells I can prepare just to then write down in my Tomelock spellbook. I took the Bless spell to buff allies which I find way more thematic than Hex.
I am my parties only healer for the most part so its important that I be able to protect myself. I also have some ideas for Darkness/Devil's Sight to "medivac" downed players if things come to that.
One thing Im very excited about doing much further down the road is taking the "Inspiring Leader" Feat at warlock lvl 8. The temp health to myself +5 other allies is a great way to preemptively offset dmg. And when I hit lvl 10 celestial I get a similar bonus that applies to a similar amount of allies giving everyone essentially an over-shield of temporary health. At lvl 11 I would be getting +31 temp HP and everyone else in my group would be getting +26 temp HP. Which is a lot! Especially for 2 abilities I can use per short OR long rest.
All in all Im pretty excited to keep playing him. The amount of customization in warlock really lets you create a character around a very specific theme. And since you're tied to this other worldly being who is giving you your powers, its really cool to be able to roleplay that relationship too.
Although I've played this character in two different one shots, (at 3rd, and 4th level respectively), I'll be starting a new campaign tonight at 1st level playing a Half-Drow Celestial Warlock. Pretty stoked to get to play this character in an ongoing game. She's totally un-optimized for combat, but will be great at being a sneaky trickery combat medic! Taking Pact of the Chain at 3rd, and hope to avoid taking Eldritch Blast ever if I can get away with it.
I Have a Pact of the blade Celestial warlock. He pretends to be a cleric and for a while his party thought it was weird for a cleric to shoot Eldritch blasts it was hilarious. Went Improved pact weapon, Eldritch smite, and thirsting Blade Invocations. On hit i deal 5d8+3Magical+7radiant+4radiant On an Eldritch smite. @lvl 7. hes fun. Now hes like, you see that radiant damage and smite told u guys i was a cleric. He does heal make sure people stay alive. but the best way to heal you party is make sure they dont take any by killing everything.
I wrote up a PotB Celestial Warlock as a backup to my current Hexblade, but haven't played her yet. I've come to realize that she might be prefect for Curse of Strahd, tho... She's a Protector Aasimar, and combined with Celestial, that's a lot of radiant/fire damage, and healing opportunities.
Started her with 2 levels of Fighter, for better weapons/armor options, and the Dueling fighting style. And, for backstory reasons. She is young, small, and acrobatic, so she's DEX based. At a young age she found a weird curved sword in a lake, and her father wanted her to learn to be a warrior, like he was. Slowly, she gained mystical abilities, and started wanting to follow that path, which lead her to her Patron, Isis. The sword, a Khopesh, was a gift from Isis. After that, she left her Fighter training, and started focusing on Warlock stuff. But, she is totally a front line, sword and board melee medic.
Since she's only 14, one of her Invocations is Mask of Many Faces, so she can blend into a crowd and not draw too much attention to herself. No Eldritch Blast - she would use Sacred Flame and Green-Flame Blade as her go-to cantrips, for now. Lighting Lure and True Strike are in her future. Guiding Bolt scales really well, and she's got a handful of support spells on tap - Hypnotic Pattern, Ray of Enfeeblement, Counterspell, Dispel Magic....
I've been playing a Water Genasi Celestial Warlock, tome pact.
My PC's focuses are acting as the party communicator, mediator, healer, and pseudo-spy.
We're in a naval campaign, so I figured understanding multiple languages and being noticeable is a must. When I took Tome Pact, I kinda went with flavor spells, so Mold Earth,Thaumaturgy, and Primal Savagery to make my PC more dramatic and noticeable when I perform "miracles" on the street and in public.
Upon taking Book of Ancient Secrets, I took Comprehend Languages and Speak with Animals, both of which have been very helpful for gathering information. I will keep adding ritual spells since with no wizard or bard, I'm trying to become the party's out-of-combat utility caster. Additional ritual spells I have in my tome are Detect Magic, Identify,Find Familiar,Augury. With Find Familiar, I can spy on covert meetings using my familiar, usually in the form of a small animal or insect; and Augury helps us determine which plan of action to take. I'm working my way to collect all the ritual spells possible.
When in combat, I first cast Flaming Sphere and then use the subsequent bonus action for additional, guaranteed damage on at least 1 target. Afterward, it's spamming Eldritch Blast and/or bonus action Flaming Sphere or Healing Light as needed.
I do off healing to get people up, DPS and positioning with Repelling Blast and pull face duty for the group. I also have a short rest time stop that pulls me out of time to move out of the way or stop a trap or so on, courtesy of a very good DM
@WiccanChaos Mechanically -- Sorcerer, Paladin or Bard are the best to pair a warlock up with... They all use CHA and you can dip into only a handful of levels (1 to 3) of either of those 4 classes at a minimum and still be really good.
I built up the Protector Aasimar Celestial Warlock above, and even though she's melee based PotB, I'm thinking about NOT taking Thirsting Blade invoc, and instead using GFB and the Celestial's Radiant Soul bump to damage of radiant & fire damage, that might do more damage than a second swing of the blade.
Does that sound like a decent idea? GFB upscales with level, as does CHA modifier, but a second attack really doesn't. If it's a miss on the hit dice, I'm SOL, and mathematically less chances for crits... I know I need to wait until level 6 before Radiant Soul comes online. Maybe she uses Thirsting Blade levels 3-5 until then.
Sounds ok. I can't really answer you from a mathematical perspective but also consider booming blade. GFB really shines with multiple enemies. You can also boom, misty step away (or use a familiar to help with your disengage or some other method to escape) then the enemy is forced to chase you and take an additional damage for moving, stay where he is or.. shoot you.
I'm considering an Eldritch Knight + Celestial build. The idea is to be a frontline damage sponge who self-heals.
Shield/absorb spells Celestial healing tricks Pact of Chain (for maximized healing) Heavy Armor Mastery Damage from BB/GFB in melee and eldritch blast as a ranged backup.
If your game rolls for stats and you get enough to have Charisma, Dex, AND Int pretty high I'd say it would work out well.
My Celestial Palilock does very similar (also uses Pact of the Chain!) Though since the Paladin and Celestial divine sources are the same my DM ruled that I could Lay on Hands through my familiar which really kicked it up a notch.
I'm playing a human celestial tomelock, initially in a one shot but now as a replacement in ToA (both level 5).
Backstory is coming from a line of paladin's he was expecting to smite evil and protect the innocent in the name of Tyr but a muscle wasting disease him unable to fight. This left him depressed and, when he was able to prevent a village being wiped out, suicidal. He was about to jump cliff, when a solar of Tyr appeared offering him magic powers to fight evil if, he submitted to o the will of the solar.
IF Agonizing Eldritch Blast, hits it can more damage (at 6th): 1d10+CHA on two attacks, but you roll each separately. Firebolt with Radiant Souls is 2d20+CHA as a single attack.
Remember Eldritch Blast gets Agonizing Cha bonus on each hit (2 at 6th level) whereas Firebolt with Radiant Soul boost only adds Cha to 1 damage roll.
Have a friend who is playing a celestial warlock trying to be an archeologist. Has become the group’s main healer despite having a Cleric with us. Though at higher levels that will probably change.

Since you were protecting your daughter perhaps a celestial who is under rule of a divinity that represents family or fertility?

I rolled up a war forged celestial warlock only lvl2 atm but was debating on multiclassing it but couldn't decide what to go with.

INT is actually unnecessary as your wiz spells are defensive. Save DC's and attack rolls aren't a factor. In theory you could totally dump INT.
Ah that's right you're not taking anything other than maybe magic missile for offense over there.
