I actually find Flaming Sphere kinda odd as a spell, it's frustrating to play in more ways than one.
If we wanna talk concentration spells that are fun to hold, I'm a huge fan of Cloud of Daggers. Lotta dice, interactions with our pushing mechanics and all around MVP of single square movement denial.
I mean you dont want to use it in an enclosed wooden room but aside from that Im curious what makes the spell annoying. A 5 ft object isnt all that difficult to maneuver, the lingering damage only hurts allies if they start their turn in its space, and as a bonus action you can do damage to an enemy and force them to either commit to standing still and take more damage, or make them move. For me the ability to move the sphere is what makes it valuable, because it makes it have more uses than the static cloud of daggers.
For me, I think it is actually the movement. I like the challenge of a fixed space, the ability to use my bonus action for healing without losing DPS and the lack of common resistance or chance to set things on fire. Plus it gives me a good excuse to push things around with EB. It just fits me a lot better.
I'm playing a Celestial tomelock currently at level 5. Up until now I have been the primary healer and ranged sniper with rituals for detect magic and identify. I have recently started using my spell slots more offensively though. Last session I almost blew away an Ogre single highhandedly with a crit that managed 47 damage from guiding bolt. EB took a massive power-up at level 5 too, with two blasts doing 1d10+5 (Chr) +1d6 (hex) +5 (maddening hex) so if both hit I am keeping up with the melee in the party for damage dealing (averaging 20 per bolt).
Normally, I play a simple martial character, but all the usual suspects were taken prior to my joining the party, so I decided to try something new... a warlock.
Having no idea what I was doing, I went with a Celestial and so far, I'm really diggin it, despite it being way out of my comfort zone (i find giant lists of spell options to be daunting).
My party has a couple sources of healing (paladin, ranger, druid), but no dedicated healer. Having a little extra healing ability is nice, but I don't feel like I have to save all my slots in order to clean up the blood after the rest of my party has all the fun. And the party knows that healing is limited, so we weigh our actions accordingly
Having just reached 6th level, Radiant Soul was a bit underwhelming. There are so many options for warlocks that assume Eldritch Blast, that ditching it and relying on Sacred Flame just doesn't seem like a great trade off. And adding an extra +4 to a larger spell for only a single target is kinda weak. Wish they would have added fire resistance as well as the rarely encountered radiant damage, given both types receive the damage boost.
I am enjoying the theme of having a good patron. My character was a bit of a scum bag forced to be a good guy as an ultimatum by my patron (be good or be destroyed), so I'm having fun playing that out.
Also, being a charisma based class, I'm having fun trying to solve problems without weaponry if given a chance, knowing my patron may be watching.
Looking forward to seeing how future levels play out.
I have a tiefling pact of the tome celestial warlock. Her patron is a phoenix. When a phoenix dies it is reborn, however it is reborn as a chick so it needs protection while it grows up. A phoenix enters into a deal with my character that she will guard him in his library for 100 years. In exchange my character will not age for that 100 years of service and she will receive powers to help with the protection. With pact of the tome, book of ancient secrets, and magic initiate....my warlock has 12 cantrips, 6 rituals, and 4 others spells she can spend at will. She is an off the cuff character, no family or home or responsibility. She likes to adventure for the fun of it. She likes to use utility spells in imaginative ways. For example prestedigitation can cause a harmless sensory effect like touch. So she invented the Barf gun. She points at her victim and uses the cantrip to give the sensation of a finger touching the back of their throat until.....BARF! Plus the phoenix patron works with "gift of the protector" and "searing vengeance" at higher levels giving her 2 extra lives every day
Just getting to start up a Cleric 1(knowledge)/ tomelock 10 (celestial) in the next few weeks. The group just finished up Frostmaiden and for character reasons it made sense to retire my Ranger. Starting this high is somewhat disappointing because its not as fun to grow characters in a lab, but looking forward to high level shenanigans.
There is no full time cleric in the party so we will be splitting those roles between a bard, part time paladin, and part time cleric.
I put Fey Touched and Infernal Constitution on a Fierna Tiefling, and then went AB, Sculptor of Flesh, Trickster's Escape, Eldritch Mind, and Book of Ancient Secrets. I strongly considered going with Flames of Phlegethos and grabbing firebolt, but I have really been wanting to play with a character that has Fey Touched to see how it goes.

I believe you need to have purchased Xanathars Guide to Everything
