This meant as a Bonus Action I could turn my staff into Shillegalgh and casts Armor of Agathys to protect myself.
You can't do this in the same round. Once per turn, you can cast a slotted spell and a cantrip only regardless of the action types it takes to cast.
Shillelagh is a cantrip with a casting time of 1 bonus action. Armor of Agathys is a 1st-level spell with a casting time of 1 action.
Actually, the rule refers to casting a spell as a bonus action - once you cast a spell as a bonus action, the only other spell you can cast using your action can be a cantrip. If you cast aShillelagh as a bonus action, you can only cast another cantrip using your action.
That said the Dev do acknowledge that psychic and force are both a "superior" damage type.
I agree, it isn't necessarily relevant to the Fire-vs-Radiant discussion, but it certainly factors into psychic and force discussions. Check Vicious Mockery vs Frostbite; in terms of effects both do the same thing (disadvantage on next attack roll), but psychic-vs-cold seems to make a difference of one die step. Although there is also a difference in the components of the spell, Vicious Mockery is Verbal only.

I have - you just said you were casting two spells, neither a cantrip. I said that the action spell must be a cantrip. Im not sure what you are trying to say, the rule is there. You cannot cast a bonus action cantrip and then a level spell as an action (which is what you suggested in your post on the previous page)
I think he might means using an Action (cast a lvl 1 spell), then cast a spell as an bonus action (cantrip).
The thinking is this is legal, as the wording used states after a bonus action is uses, nothing about before.
Edit: just looked at the spells he was asking about, and they all seem to be lvl 1 or higher. I think what he missing is that even though the cast time is 1 bonus action, the spell is not a cantrip and there for cannot be cast the same turn as anothner non-cantrip.

My DM's enforces that rule so that the spell that's a full action must be a cantrip and the spell that's a bonus action can be any level. He doesn't care what order I cast the spells in, but the spell that's a full round action can only be a cantrip.

"You must use a bonus action on your turn to cast the spell, provided that you haven't already taken a bonus action this turn. You can't cast another spell during the same turn, except for a cantrip with a casting time of 1 action."
From what I gather you can do the following
Action cantrip+ Bonus action cantrip
Action cantrip + bonus action spell
You cannot do action spell and bonus action spell like your example above.
Honestly, I'm a bit sorry this thread derailed into offtopic discussions about action management, while the actual questions haven't really been addressed that much. So for clarity's sake, here they are again:
Do you actively use healing and support spells with your Warlock
Are you the sole healer in your team? Is that viable, or do you need backup from a full healer?
I agree. RAW if you cast a spell as a Bonus Action then the Action can only be a Cantrip. It changes the order of operations very little, because on the following turn I'll Shillelagh then Green-Flame Blade... two cantrips. It's a minor point of RAW not earth shattering.
The interesting thing is the Dev's actively said they created this rule specifically so that (Sorcerers with Quickened Spell) or any similar edge case in the future can't cast 2 leveled spells in a turn. They didn't want a Sorcerer Bonus Action: Quickened Fireball and then Action: Fireball.
I don't believe the Developers intended to stop Shillelagh nor Magic Stone, as they are the only Bonus Action cantrips in the game, being cast with a leveled spell.
That said it's the RAW but I have a pretty high confidence if someone asked Jeremy C. or Mike M. about this situation he'd probably say "Opps, It's RAW." Mike M. would probably say he'd let it go in his games.

I play a fighter 1 Celestial 9 bladelock in my group. We're a party of 2 other fights and 1 ranger, with me as the sole healer. Since I have full plate I can pretty easily wade into the action, and always have a bonus action for maddening hex, relentless hex or healing light. My healing tends to be restricted to picking up someone when they go down rather than keeping everyone topped off, and since I tend to get a lot of mileage out of hex I usually have a cure wounds spell slot ready in an emergency. She calls herself the first paladin of her celestial paladin's order, and green flame blade is very competitive compared to multiple attacks.
I am playing a Celestial Bladelock that I am building to be like a Red Mage from the Final Fantasy games. He's Dex based for combat so his Pact Weapon is a Rapier (perfect!). I went Human and took the War Caster feat, and at 4th level I'm taking the Moderately Armored feat to boost my Dex and give me proficiency with Shields. At level 5 I'll pick up Improved Pact Weapon. At that point my AC will be 18.
I think it's level 7 I will be taking Beguiling Hex so that I can teleport myself to a hexed creature.
Sacred Flame is handy if you find yourself rushed by enemies because it doesn't require an attack roll so there's no disadvantage from being in melee range of the target.
As far as healing, I was sharing duties with a Paladin. However the group now has a cleric.
There's also the fact that frostbite only affects weapon attacks, while vicious mockery affects all attack rolls.
