i have a game coming up and I want to play a hex blade, but the party needs a rogue. looking to multiclass just looking for advise to the level breakdown and when to take them.
thinking of starting 1st level Human hex with war caster then move into rogue for 4 levels to get another feet
If you want to work with traps and locks, you don't need to multiclass rogue to do that. You can start as with the Urchin or Criminal backgrounds, or use a custom background to be proficient in Thieve's tools. You can also be a Half-Elf or Human (Variant) and take the Prodigy feat to get this proficiency. And then having a decent dexterity with medium armor should make you competent in this field.
I started my Hexblade /PotB and took her to level 5 to get Thirsting Blade for second attack.
Now, I'm halfway through a 3-level dip into Rogue Swashbuckler. Partly for the expertise, cunning action, and Rakish Audacity - but also for roleplay. She's the main sneaky one anyway, and wants to start up a brothel soon.
But I'm super excited for higher spell levels, and more spell slots, so she will stick to Warlock for the rest of the way.

thoughts, suggestions?
Why does the party need a rogue? You can play a Hexblade Warlock, the party will do just fine without a rogue.
