Has anyone here used the Pact of the Talisman from the Class Feature Variants UA? If so I am interested to read your thoughts on the matter. Personally I think the concept is cool, fun, and flavorful, but is it any good in practice?
Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
Im gonna be honest. I havent tried it. But from what I have seen it looks pretty weak mechanically.
You could probably make some nice use out of it narratively and if you and your DM homewbrew you can change some stuff around to make it feel better. But if we are talking pure Warlock it seems like one of the weaker ones. Idk if its the weakest, Im not experienced enough for that.
Maybe for a multiclass if you find something that fits well with it?
Its best for if you're only dipping warlock. It doesn't really give a whole lot, and it falls short at later levels so far. I think it would be neat if there was something that scaled to it? Like...
number of talismen up to profiency bonus can exist at once. Then it becoems a solid party buff, and a solid method to protect multiple characters later.
As it stands though, it just doens't upgrade well. more so because its limited to non profienct stuff.
I’m about to join up in a friend’s campaign with a lurker warlock. We rolled for stats and already have a bard, druid, cleric, and wizard, so the party is already pretty caster heavy. I’m trying to avoid stepping on any toes with what I pick so I’m giving the talisman shot. I’m hoping to use it for the control it offers with the rebuke and bond invocations.

Had the first session today. The talisman was pretty handy because I have awful dexterity so an extra d4 on a stealth roll actually saved the party in a sneak attempt.
Our dm has a homebrew ruleset with dissecting bits off of creatures that involves time. In order to get the most out of a finished combat with many exotic creatures whose parts could be harvested for potions and crafting and not spend days doing it, the entire party has to get involved. Almost everyone is proficient with survival (the skill check we use dissecting) except the wizard, so she was able to use the talisman to help her rolls as well.
i have looked at the pact of the talisman a LOT and from what i have seen if you are wanting to give up some invocations it can be helpful but you might wanna ask your DM to buff it a little bit if you want to use it for combat but in terms of outside of combat (like sneak attacks) then you got yourself a pretty good thing because your pact magic is FROM the talisman so that means you can cast your spells from the talisman so that can be useful for a trap but if you lose it you can get it back in your hand as a BA so that can be helpful but in short for combat it is not best but for outside and sneak then it is pretty nice with the right invocations
I'm planning a character for the Talisman. The base pact boon is nice, but most Invocations are not desirable for me. D4 on saves is awesome. Rebuking monsters feels niche when I have reppeling Eldritch Blast and the teleportation invocation basically requires you to give your pact boon away? I feel the other pact boons have better invocations.
