I find the playstyle of using bladesong for defenses and better concentration interesting and then going in the offense with spells.
I would be interested in sample spell lists for a level 4 and a level 10 Bladesinger. How would a good List of 12 Known and 8 Prepared spells look like at level 4 and 24 known and 14 prepared spells at level 10.
If i pick spell-lists myself i always end up with some sort of "my typical spelllist" and have difficulties to squeeze in good bladsinger spells.

At level 4 my spell list will look something like this - Level 1 spells: Mage Armor/Burning Hands, Shield, Find Familiar, Absorb Elements, Silent Image, Feather Fall/Sleep, Detect Magic/Comprehend Languages Unseen Servant/Tensers Floating Disk
Level 2 Spells: Shadow Blade, Misty Step, Suggestion, Web
Prepared List: Mage Armor/Burning Hands (I prefer Mage Armor as it is better until you can find +1 armor but Burning Hands gives sweet damage to multiple enemies as well as being able to ignite Web), Shield, Absorb Elements, Feather Fall/Sleep/Silent Image (Sleep is taken if campaign started at level 1, otherwise Silent Image is preferred, Feather Fall is more of a just in case spell that I most likely prepare when I hit 20 INT), Shadow Blade, Misty Step. Suggestion, Web
The Suggestion spot is not set in stone, it is more a utility spot which can easily be something like Rope Trick or Invisibility.
Level 10 is too hard to list as a lot of spell picks for 3rd level or higher will be campaign dependent. For example in most settings you would pick up Fly but not if your campaign is set underwater or in underground tunnels that make flight unnecessary or useless.
I feel like bladesinging would be better if it would actually have features that helped with meelee and not just give a bit more AC
It does help with melee. It gives you a weapon proficiency, it gives you multiple forms of protection, it gives you extra attack and it lets you replace one of those with a melee cantrip like booming blade, green-flame blade or shocking grasp.

Also... "a bit more AC" is really underselling how much defense you can get out of this subclass. Like, bladesingers built for melee tend to have the best AC in the game. Period.
(AC doesn't really make them unbeatable, but it does help :) )

Not forgetting
Increased concentration protection
Increased mobility
Overall I love the Bladesinger as a gish but its power is very dependent on the number of combats you can expect per day, in combats you are not bladesinging you ar elittle more than a subclassless wizard that can not wear medium or heavy armor (e.g. through race or multiclass). If you only have one or 2 combats per day that is not a problem have a lot of dungeon crawls it will be, expecially in tier 1 and 2.
mobility and concentration protection are imo, the core of what makes the bladesinger great. Wizards are the strongest class in the game imo, and turning them into a weak fighter, just diminishes them. I feel that a bladesinger, played at range, casting spells (rather than swinging swords) with the defenses in order to take a surprise or two and still maintain concentration is extremely strong. A melee wizard may be fun, but leaves a lot of raw power on the table because you're not doing what you do better than any other class: casting spells.
Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
I agree to an extent that you probably shouldn't try to force round pegs into square holes, but there is president for testing new ideas. If you're going to cast a cantrip in combat, why not fire a bullet from a sling while you do so? Bladesingers are the only ones who do this as part of their Attack action, keeping the bonus action open to do something else with, unlike EK fighters and Valor bards.

The control of the battlefield is insane. Create a wall of water to stop hordes of enemies coming in from a street or cave, while fighting and distracting a bigger threat with your capoeira. Have War Caster icw Bladesong and that Wall isn't going anywhere. Especially when using Song of Defense to lower the ammount of damage and thus lowering the DC for concentration.
My playstyle is not to be the highest damage dealer, but the controller and give others opportunities to shine with advantages. Insert Reverse Gravity here.

I thought it was pretty weak and then i had one in my party and he did well once he got close to mid-level...rushing ahead alone and doing fine. I prefer evokers and order of scribes but that is me.
A wizards power is in all of the options a wizard has, and knowing when to prepare and use which option. The Bladesinger subclass gives you an additional option. (An option that can be fun to play as is isn't typical of wizards)

Suggestion is strong! I'm at 7th level (Fighter level 1/ Bladesinger level 6) and currently use:
Absorb Elements
Grease
Sheild
Blur
Phantasmal Force
Suggestion
Counterspell
Fireball
Haste
Hypnotic Pattern

Technically, it's any cantrip.
Acid Splash, Frostbite, Infestation, Lightning Lure, and Mind Sliver are all terrific options for someone who wants to be in melee but isn't.
Also... "a bit more AC" is really underselling how much defense you can get out of this subclass. Like, bladesingers built for melee tend to have the best AC in the game. Period.
