I went with Minor Illusion, Toll the Dead, Ray of Frost (firebolt overrated) prestidigitation, and booming blade

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
Toll the Dead is definitely one of my favourite cantrips as it does more potential damage if a target is injured. Definitely need to use Mage Hand more though.
For RP I take Prestidigitation and Mending early. I flavor my food, I chill and warm drinks to suit me, I can warm the bath water, and I can have fresh from the dry cleaner clothes every morning. If I want to mess with folks, soil their clothes and see where that does. Some of the earlier comments were even funnier, but I'm not looking to "discuss" why I made it appear the barbarian "cut the cheese" when he went to make his move on the barmaid. At least not unless I have an extra spell slot and Hold Person on my spell list.

Prestidigitation did just get me and my party into a well guarded castle after we've been declared heretics. It's about the only flashy spell I've got to convince guards I can (and will) crush them into slimes if they don't listen to me -- everything else is pure force damage. Also, my party has spent the last week fighting monsters in a muddy valley while also having to look presentable at dinnertime for the local lady. Really, it's hard to go wrong with that one.
If Sapping Sting were on the list I might choose that though, because it works great to knock an enemy down so the party barbarian and paladin can go pound on it while I hide behind a tree. The damage isn't the highest, but knocking things prone? Depending on how you use it, it's pretty sweet.
I've got a lot of wizards and the cantrips I take on every single one at some point while leveling them are prestidigitation and minor illusion. Mage hand usually sneaks its way in there.
Booming blade/Green flame blade are great for rogues, fighters and bladesinger wizards.
Firebolt, chill touch and ray of frost are great for those ranged attacks. Toll the dead is another great one.
Message is great if you have a rogue in the party who is scouting, or if you're multiclassed into rogue and you're scouting.
Mending is situationally great. It comes in especially handy when you're playing modules or hardcover chapters when you're on some sort of vehicle like a ship or a carriage.
You use Booming Blade as opportunity attack, and they take the weapon damage, plus the booming blade damage because they hae to willingly move 5 feet or more to provoke the OA.
I'm not sure that's going to work the way you think it does. That said, Booming Blade and Green Flame are the holy grail cantrips for gish..but for a pure Wizard, I think my priorities lie elsewhere.
I wish I got to make many opportunity attacks with my casters with booming blade. Mostly, they have no interest in moving away from me once they get there. I do generally have a dagger drawn on my casters, and I do like to have booming blade available in case I have a need to hit something and try to get away. BB + misty step is something I have done, or BB and eat the OA myself to get away. It's pretty niche though. It's usually after mind sliver, ray of frost, presitigitation and minor illusion, not necessarily in that order.

Raise Thread is also a great cantrip...
Warcaster + Booming Blade works perfectly fine and is a rather well known combination. The only problem Booming Blade would have as Wizard is that you need to be holding a weapon to use it on and you need to make a regular attack so either using your DEX or STR for the hit roll.
Maybe I totally misread his comment, but it sure sounded like he thought the booming blade would proc on the same movement that created the opportunity to cast the spell because of Warcaster. That's not guaranteed. A target hit by an OA attack mid-move is in control of its movement, unless somehow compelled.
Your 2nd comment is why I mentioned "Gish". It suits their needs better.
My understanding is that they can do exactly that. Oh shoot, there’s an aura of booming energy on me. I better stop moving. If the movement were involuntary, then booming blade doesn’t trigger per description. If you can’t choose to stop the movement then it isn’t voluntary at that point. You still take the immediate damage from the spell and the reactive effect still waits to be triggered (assuming the target chose to stop the movement to avoid damage).
I don’t disagree with your criticism. I should have been specific and referenced non-multi attack gish. I.e 2/18. I disagree that reducing your attack to 1 attack is bad as it usually affords level 9 spells. Now. If you were to do it for the sole purpose of a cantrip, I’d agree.
I laughed too hard reading this
What made you laugh so much?

I voted Fire Bolt, Mage Hand, Message, Minor Illusion, and Prestidigitation, but if Toll the Dead was on the list I would swap Message for it.

Prestidigitation + Mage Hand are both a great Combo to get a better use of this Illusory hand.
Also Light + Minor Illusion are the best trolling combo for Bards & Thieves.
My Ready-to-rock&roll chars:
Dertinus Tristany // Amilcar Barca // Vicenç Sacrarius // Oriol Deulofeu // Grovtuk
Presti = Quick ( in latin/italian idiom ).
Digitation = it comes from the word Digit/-at = finger/ from finger............. and the word tation = Moving/movement.
So the literal meaning of Prestidigitation is = The art of fast-moving the fingers..... ok ??

Which is hilarious because that's more of a rogue/street magician thing.
Voted for 4 because Toll the Dead is missing

Booming blade + War Caster
