I just saw a post that claimed that Dndbeyond was going to remove Volo's Guide to Monsters and Mordenkainan's Tome of Foes from sale after Monsters of the Multiverse comes out. Is this true? The poster claims it came out of a Dev update.
Here is all the information regarding the new book, no, they are not removing VGtM or MToF.
EDIT: Ok, I think they are no longer going to SELL the two books once the new book comes out. But they are not being removed from those who already own them.

I didnt see anything in the FAQ to suggest that, but it also wasn't covered, so... Maybe? But probably not.
When tyranny of dragons got remastered as a single book (still not great), they didn't stop selling the old books, but they also didn't sell the new combined book, so... IDK.
I wouldn't put it past WotC to pull something like that, but DDB would definitely give us a heads up if that was the case and they were allowed to.
I looked through the FAQ. While it makes clear nothing will be removed from existing accounts, it doesn't say whether it will still be for sale. Both books have a ton of lore that doesn't seem to be in Monsters of the Multiverse. While I already own these books, it would be shame for that stuff to be unavailable for new players and DMs. I could see ending the print run I suppose, but removing it from digital sales seems unnecessary. In any case, the fact the FAQ makes no mention one way or the other and they are going to through effort to distinguish the 2 versions makes me think they will stay up for sale. Still, it would be nice to have a definitive answer.
Related question that I can't find the answer to. Without needing multiple versions of both books, I was wondering if Everything in Mordenkainen's Tome of foes will be in Multiverse. I'm interested in the number of monsters and races as being included in the new book.

Essentially, yes everything in MToF and VGtM will be reprinted in MPMotM, but half of it will be "updated" with new/altered traits, etc. To have both versions, you will need both books (or to at least buy the other version out of the old book).

...Which becomes impossible if the old books are to be removed from the store, which is why the question is asked.

Leaving OGL 1.0(a) untouched and making SRD 5.1 CC-BY-4.0 is a great first step. The next is a promise to do the same for future editions. Here's a discussion thread on that.

To be fair, we own Volo's, but not Tome of Foes which was on our list as our next purchase. I'm not concerned about the updates as much as I am building our bestiary. I also don't want to miss any cool monsters to the new book. Based on this information we'll order Multiverse and not Tome of Foes. Thank you all for the help!
In a honesty the best way to handle this is to not buy it. If the book sales do poorly then WoTC may stop and think about how much is too much. That'll never happen, as now the company gets to double dip its sales between digital and physical.

Oh yeah, look at that. This was added to the FAQ yesterday (5/9):
Can I still buy Volo’s Guide to Monsters or Mordenkainen’s Tome of Foes on D&D Beyond?
Starting on May 16, you can acquire the streamlined and up-to-date creatures and character race options, as well as a plethora of exciting new content, by purchasing Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse. On May 17, Volo's Guide to Monsters and Mordenkainen’s Tome of Foes will be discontinued from our digital marketplace.
Note: the FAQ still confirms that these books will remain usable for those who previously purchased them, just that new purchases will not be possible in the future.
So what I would like to know is, are we going to be allowed to just copy & paste the old versions of the races into homebrew and share that? Like, last I checked public homebrew content can't be too similar to officially published and sold content, but if the original sources are no longer sold it should be okay to offer the legacy versions as homebrew options so the rest of the community can use them if they wish, right?
You can put the entire PHB into your DDB's homebrew collection if you want, you just can't hit that "publish" button. _You_ can have it, and you can share it via the Master Tier with other DDB users in a campaign with you, it just can't be published to be searched and discovered by community. That's always been the way DDB Homebrew has worked.
I've got a few hardcovers I don't own on DDB, I've loaded my fair share bit of those contents into my DDB account via homebrew. It's actually my intent to load what I want from my print MMM into DDB rather than buy the book on here as well. I only need the races, I don't use the encounter builder or combat tracker so generally run monsters off paper anyway.

I mean, yeah, obviously, my question is whether or not we will be allowed to publish the legacy versions of these races for use by the community at large.

You aren't even allowed to publish 3rd party or playtest content that is completely free, why would you ask if officially published paid content is less restricted?

Of course the old books will go out of print. I already had Volo’s, and just grabbed Mordenkainen’s Tome so I would have it.

DDB is great, but it could be better. Here are some things I think could improve DDB

So get them if you want them.
I just hope they don't "Update" my content from my books like they did with Ebberon.
They won't. The old stuff will stay old and the new stuff has to be bought new.
