My apologies if this has been asked before. The product of my Google searches leads me to believe that it hasn't been answered. Simply put, I would like to know if there is some concise method for transferring characters between accounts. I know all about unassigned characters and players claiming them. That's not my situation though.
In one of my campaigns, I had an offshoot where I took the characters separately through "side quests" during the run of the game. Rather than extra sessions with just one or a couple of the players from the overall group, I set up mini-adventures complete with "alternate" PCs for the players not involved in the current side quests. I created some of those PCs in D&D Beyond and then added them to my campaign as unassigned characters. The players playing them temporarily then went in and claimed them for use during the game.
The problem I have is that now, I want those characters back and there does not appear to exist any way one player can transfer a character from their account directly to another player's account.

Thoughts?
It should be possible for them to unassign the characters so you can reclaim.
Unassign and claim is the only method I know (as Ebiru mentioned).
The current player of each character you need back will have to go into the campaign and click Unassign for that character.
Then you can claim the character back.

As already mentioned by others, they can give it to you exactly the same way you gave it to them. They just click "unassign."
Thanks for the responses guys. I don't remember that functionality existing but it works fine now.
