The D&D Beyond description of Dagger of Venom says "Proficiency with a dagger allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it."
This wording is not in the DMG, ********, or roll20.net. Is there some errata anywhere that supports this? I imagine it's only applicable to off-hand attacks without Dual the Wielding feat. A minor DPR increase when using a d8/d6 main hand and d4 off hand. Am I missing anything here?
Wording like that or similar appears at the bottom of every magic weapon. If it’s a magic dagger, it’s telling you that proficiency with daggers applies to that magic weapon as well.
