I have been working on a homebrew subclass for a few days now and certain parts of the features that rely on options chosen don't seem to be quite working and i was wondering if its bugged or I'm just doing it wrong. The premise is a stance based monk subclass. You choose 1 stance at 3rd level, and choose an extra one at 6th and 11th (allowing you to have 3 out of the 4 options). Then at 17th, you master one of those choices. So you choose one of the 3 stances you choose previously, and gain benefits based on which one you choose. In practical sense it basically improves the stance, but right now im not bothered about altering numbers, i simply want it to appear correct.
What is happening is when you choose this option at 17th level, the correct choices are available. If i chose stance A, B and D, those are the choices shown, which is correct. However every time you select an option and close the drop down, it says you still needs to make a choice, and when you reopen the drop down its not got an option selected. When looking at the character sheet, under the description of this 17th level feature, it has the information for all of your potential choices (which it shouldn't) as well as copies of the information of each choice you made. So if i had the options between stance A B & D. Choose D for the upgrade, saw it didn't work and tried again, then went to the sheet. It would show the text for the upgrades for stance A, B, and then 3 sets of D.
Like i said, I'm really not trying to actually change numbers on the character sheet, its one of those that the player just needs to know what it changes and remembers that, as the benefits are only active while they're in that stance. any help would be greatly appreciated!
Please post a link to your character sheet so someone can look into it for you. I am not a Mod or Staffer, but I am familiar enough with the homebrewer to figure out how you programmed it if I can see it on a character sheet. I would then be able to tell you what to change to make it as close to how you want it as possible.
Okay. It looks like you are using options for the initial elemental discipline and again using options for the elemental mastery. I am presuming that you made the discipline options as the prerequisites for the mastery options. I am also assuming that for the discipline options you listed 3,6,11 as the levels. And for the Mastery, that you set the level as 17. Is all of that correct?
that is correct, i also wasnt sure the difference between making a feature granted, additional or replacement, so theyre set to granted. ive tried changing that around without much success, as well as changing whether the levels required is empty or not.
ive managed to basically recreate the feature, and it appears on the builder its now holding the option chosen, thought is still showing the details of all 3 option s regardless of choice
Ignore “additional” and “replacement,” you were right to make the Class Features “granted.”
Did you perchance also set the elemental mastery options as “is granted” too? If so, that would be the problem because it is automatically giving them all to you because you meet the prerequisite.
the individual options are not set to granted no. i basically want it so on the sheet the player only sees the things they're using/can access to avoid confusion. i think ive managed to fix the duplicating text thing though
