Hi Dainton, did you have any luck with this? If they are variants or subclasses of an existing race they may be showing by the original race, otherwise new races should appear in alphabetical order. You do not need to publish homebrew races to have them appear in your own character builder, or anything else of the sort. They should be there.
The issue i'm having is it won't even let me add them as it says I need a subscription , I don't remember that being said in the video so I'm confused
Are you trying to add races from the publicly posted ones? According to the Subscription page, it shows that "Use public homebrew content from others" is not a feature of the free account.
You can make homebrew without a subscription, and you can use the homebrew of anyone with a Master Tier subscription if you're in their campaign and they've enabled the sharing of their homebrew. However, personally adding homebrew from the public ones does indeed require a base-level subscription.
Hey guys I’m also having this issue. It’s in my collection, it’s not a sub race. I’ve selected allow home brew content. I also noted that when I look at choose sources it doesn’t show homebrew as a source. The only options are:
- - All sources - -
Basic Rules
Elemental Evil Players Companion
Players Handbook
Tortle Package
Unearthed Arcana
I just spent the last 2 hours making a race and can’t even use it :(
At the risk of repeating something you've already checked, I'll ask this: Is "has subraces" checked in the race builder? If it is, it won't show up in the builder. No race that has subraces is considered a "full" or "usable" race by itself, one has to choose a subrace (one can't for example, just be an elf, one must choose from high, wood, Drow, etc.).
I know this specific issue was resolved already, but I stumbled upon this thread while having a similar but different issue. I knew that my homebrew didn't have the subrace issue, and I had tried all of the other fixes, but I still couldn't find it on my list of races to click on in character creation... I was incredibly frustrated and about to give up but figured out that using the search function at the top of the race selection pulled up my homebrew, even though it was not listed below.
I don't know why this worked and if it's a bug on my page, or if this works for everyone, but figured I would leave this solution here for others as this is the first result on google when I search "how to use homebrew races in dnd beyond".
Hello Wolfe_Child, please create new threads to discuss current issues, as D&D Beyond has changed quite a lot since July of 2018, so the information here may be considered out of date. As such, I will be locking this thread.
For the issue you present:
Race groups are only present for official races, this is how you see "Elves" grouped in a drop down under Elf, where you find all the subraces that are derived from Elf. There is no way to create a homebrew race group. If you have a homebrew race with subraces, you will select the subrace from the character builder, not the race, just as you would for an official race-- It just looks different, as there is no 'grouping' of your homebrew subraces.
If you scroll in your choices of races without using the search filter, you should find your subraces alphabetically.

I've made two homebrew races (Mostly for myself) and they haven't shown up whenever i go to create a new character? what's going on?
Make sure you have enabled "Homebrew Content" for that character.

A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one.
Sadly i have, enabled it. They still don't show up.
It's a mystery then. I've made a few races and they work for me.
A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one.
On the Race page of the editor, refresh the browser. It is a cache problem.
Check if those races are on your Collection page also. If not go to your Creations page locate, and expand the races and click on "Add to Collection".
And I cast Heroism on the community.
I've refreshed the page, I've closed my browser. Added and removed, then re-added to my collection. They still do not show up.
Try to clear the cache.
Clearing cache doesn't seem to work.
EDIT: I have tried adding other Homebrew Races but the ones i created do not show up. Very strange.

I am having the same exact issue myself. I'm checking with a friend to make sure he can use it, to see if its me or the creation bugging.
I'm still experiencing it but its not really a problem at the moment.

Yes! Omg this actually fixed it! I saw it when I went back and rechecked it, thanks!
