Welcome to the Support Thread for STRIXHAVEN: A CURRICULUM OF CHAOS
If you find any issues with the content from the sourcebook, or using it on a D&D Beyond character, please search the thread (Search form) before posting in this thread.
RELEASE NOTES
Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos introduces the fantastical setting of Strixhaven University, drawn from the multiverse of Magic: The Gathering, and provides rules for creating characters who are students in one of its five colleges. Characters can explore the setting over the course of four adventures, which can be played together or on their own. Each adventure describes an academic year filled with scholarly pursuits, campus shenanigans, exciting friendships, hidden dangers, and perhaps even romance.
To use content from Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos in the character builder, you will need to set the character preferences to include the Magic: The Gathering source category (see the .gif below).
Syncing Entitlements
If you don’t see any of the content from the book (preorder bonuses or otherwise), please be sure to resync your entitlements. You can do so by following these steps:
Once completed, your content should appear! If you experience any issues with accessing your preorder perks please reach out to our Support Team.
Mobile App
Please note that it will take some extra time (generally 24 hours or so) before Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos is available on the mobile app.
CHARACTER OPTIONS: RACE
The Owlin race is available and fully functional.
CHARACTER OPTIONS: BACKGROUNDS
The backgrounds presented in Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos introduce a new game mechanic that grants you a Feat after taking the selected Background. While our developers are hard at work adding functionality for this, you can manually add the relevant Strixhaven Initiate feat to your character via the Features & Traits section in the Character Sheet, then clicking on "Manage Feats". Please reference the image below.
January 25th, 2023 Update:
Backgrounds now grant feats! If you already had a feat added manually (via the method above or through normal character creation), the Backgrounds section of the Character Builder will indicate that the feat has been taken. This is now available for Homebrew as well!
CHARACTER OPTIONS: FEATS
To fully support the Strixhaven Initiate feat, it has been split within the system. The feat has been subdivided by College and the ability score tied to it. As shown in the screenshot below, if your character wanted to be a part of the Lorehold College and selected Intelligence as their spellcasting modifier for those spells, you would select the Strixhaven Initiate (Lorehold) Feat, then choose the Intelligence option when prompted.
The Strixhaven Mascot requires characters to be at least level 4 and they must have the Strixhaven Initiate feat. While the system does not currently observe the restriction requiring the Strixhaven Initiate feat, please note that the system will enforce the prerequisite of being at least level 4 (unless "Use Prerequisites" is set to off in the character builder). You can access your mascot’s statblock via the Extras section of the character sheet (as seen in the image below).
CHARACTER OPTIONS: MAGIC ITEMS
Each College has a magical primer that allows you to choose a spell from a class’s spell list at the end of a long rest. While our system does not currently support this system yet, the item’s other functions are available.
CHARACTER OPTIONS: SPELLS
Two of the spells introduced in this book (Vortex Warp and Wither and Bloom) provide new options when casting at Higher Levels (range and dual scaling of damage/healing based on your Hit Dice). The character sheet does not currently auto-calculate the "At Higher Levels" scaling for these spells, but the devs are hard at work adding these into the system.
SUPPORT FOR ADDITIONAL RULES CONTENT
Relationships
Relationships are a new subsystem similar in functionality to the Piety system from Mythic Odysseys of Theros. The devs are already hard at work laying the ground work to support these alternate systems, but they aren’t quite ready yet.
Until this system has been added, there are some methods you can use to reflect and record Relationships on the character sheet. Some examples include setting up a Relationship as a Custom Skill, or use the notes section of the character sheet.
MONSTERS
Many of the new creatures have a new size category of "Medium or Small". This size category is also available to you for your own homebrew monsters!
Strixhaven is a book featuring an adventure campaign from level 1 to 10+, containing some backgrounds and a race for players. Why is it categorised as a Sourcebook, while The Wild Beyond the Witchlight, which is a book featuring an adventure campaign from level 1 to 11+ while containing some backgrounds and a race for players is categorised as an Adventure?

Does neither of Strixhaven background have Ideals, Bonds and Flaws?
As per the book, they only have Personality Traits, and only 6 entries, instead of the usual 8. I guess that's another step from Wizards on the steep path of "everything is the same", started by "we're not giving defined ability increases or sizes for races anymore because that might give the race a distinctive shape".

because WotC has declared it a sourcebook (which it is, since it's introducing a whole new setting).

Formerly Devan Avalon.
Trying to get your physical content on Beyond is like going to Microsoft and saying "I have a physical Playstation disk, give me a digital Xbox version!"
I'm having some trouble with setting up a character. I am planning to use one of the strixhaven initiate backgrounds + the feat, but there's no way to add the feat from within the character builder. So I add it through the manage feats tab on the actual sheet. But it doesn't allow me to choose the cantrips and spell.

After you add the feat through the character sheet, there should be a blue exclamation point next to the feat; and you need to expand the feat there in the list and scroll aaaaaall the way to the bottom of the description, where you find the three nondescript dropdowns to select the cantrips and the spell. Frankly, if not moving to the top of that long description, at least there should be a small title for each dropdown to describe what you select, cause "select a spell" as the default option is not the same as "Select one of the available cantrips" above the dropdown.
And considering how much one needs to scroll down in that tiny little window, I don't think space is an issue here.
Also the dropdowns allow choosing the same cantrip twice, instead of "forcing" the selection of two different cantrips.
I came to see this! We need more detailed sharing options, I’d like to give my players the ability to read about lore have character options etc without the adventure I’m about to run for them in this setting
This is getting silly. You split one feat into fifteen.
While I would love to see it being one feat, where you can choose the options from a dropdown, I guess implementing the feature to support it would have taken too long, and it's not like there have been feats before that could have also benefit from this... oh wait.
Fey Touched since Tasha
Gift of the Gem Dragon since Fizban
Gift of the Metallic Dragon since Fizban
Magic Initiate since PHB
Resilient since PHB
Ritual Caster since PHB
Shadow Touched since Tasha
Spell Sniper since PHB
Telekinetic since Tasha
Telepathic since Tasha
Elemental Adept is different, because you may take that feat several times; but the above feats (including the Strixhaven Initiate) should only be taken once.

The prerequisite for Strixhaven Mascot should be level 4 and the Strixhaven Initiate feat, but I can add it to a 1st level human character without taking any of the Initiate feats or the background granting them.
I can add all 15 Strixhaven Initiate feats to the same character, although you should be only able to take one of them.

The first post specifies that they don't currently have a way to check for the initiate feat as a pre-requisite, but the level 4 restriction is supposed to be working. I can confirm, however, that it is not; the test character I used has pre-requisites turned on in the builder, and I can still add the mascot feat to a level 1 character.
Probably not at the top of the list, but if you choose to use the feature of a Strixhaven background as part of a custom background, it doesn't expand the character's spell list to include the spells for that college. For example, I chose "Witherbloom Student" in my custom background and couldn't see "Wither and Bloom" in my list of potential spells.

Does neither of Strixhaven background have Ideals, Bonds and Flaws?
Fey Touch doesn't list Silvery Bard as an option, despite Silvery Bard been a level 1 enchantment spell.
Finally it seems neither of the background feature a drop-down menu to select Strixhaven Initiate (School of Choice + Casting mod)
SilverQuill does not have a Charisma option. The backgrounds do not grant the feat in the character creator.
Hey Staff,
Just wanted to mention, that there is at least one Reference error in the Pages of the book itself at: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/sacoc/character-options#BuildingaPrismariCharacter. Second Paragraph it references Lorehold instead of Prismari.
Thats it
