Not sure if this is a dumb question but, I am planning to run some short adventures in a separate Campaign space. The adventures have pregenerated characters which I have re-created in D&DBeyond and made 'unassigned' after joining the campaign with them. So, I have a campaign and a bunch of unassigned characters waiting to be claimed. But, how do the players join the campaign without a character? There seems to be no way to do this. It's as if there needs to be a way to send them the campaign link and rather than grab one of their characters to join with, have a button that says, "I'm joining to claim an unclaimed character, let me in or, let me browse the unclaimed characters in this campaign and join with it". Anyone faced this issue? I think I could get around it by having the players create a dummy character that is then dropped but, that is clunky and this is clearly a common use case i.e. claiming pre-generated characters for a campaign. Thoughts? Solutions? Thanks in advance!
If you send them the join link they have three options, to join with a preexisting character of their own, to claim an unassigned character from the campaign, or to create a brand new character in that campaign. Simply send them the join link and it will work exactly as you want it to.
Great! I'll give it a whirl. I didn't see that option when I sent myself the link to the campaign but I didn't realize the option doesn't come up unless there are unassigned characters (I forgot to unassign them).

I'm in a campaign with 3 unassigned characters, but I can only claim the one I created.
Is this the expected behavior for a free account?
No, but free accounts are limited to 6 characters, and the characters you create and unassign still count as yours until somebody else claims them.
(Otherwise, it'd be easy to get around the limit using unassigned characters.)
Yes, that was it. Deleted one of my characters, and I was able to claim.
Would be nice if there were some indication in the campaign page UI about this. Could have saved me an hour.
