I know you’re probably thinking of a cyst as in a medical issue, but the word really just means a sort of a “pocket” inside of something. It can also mean pocket of air in the earth when used geologically, or in biology it can also mean a place some creatures go to either rest or metamorphose or something similar. From the OED:
a tough protective capsule enclosing the larva of a parasitic worm or the resting stage of an organism.
Thank you for your answer. I am translating the online basic rules in Italian for friends, searched many online dictionaries, and found little help. The Oxford English Dictionary you pointed out has these meanings for cyst:
cyst (variant of cist): Prehistoric Archaeology. A sepulcral chest or chamber excavated in rock or formed of stones or hollowed tree-trunks; esp, a stone-coffin formed of... (paid content unavailable)
cyst (variant of kist): A chest, box, coffer.
Maybe one of these is a better choice? Otherwise I wll use "pocket" as a basis for translating that word.
The Clone spell lists "mud-filled cyst in the ground" as one of its material components. Is that correct or is that supposed to be "cistern"?
Thanks
This is correct per the latest printing of the Player's Handbook with no errata to contradict it.
