So I was making my armorer atrificer build and I was trying to assign my infusions when I encountered an issue. My enhanced weapon infusion can't be assigned to my thunder gauntlets. Is this a oversight?
Just click on the Thunder Gauntlets action, click customise and add 1 to the 'to hit' and 'damage bonus' fields. Same result.

At 2nd level, you gain the ability to imbue mundane items with certain magical infusions. The magic items you create with this feature are effectively prototypes of permanent items.

They aren't magic items. "Thunder Gauntlets. Each of the armor’s gauntlets counts as a simple melee weapon while you aren’t holding anything in it..."
It's not magical unless you add infusions to it, such as propulsion armor or armor of magical strength. If the armor is magical by default, how do you use these infusions?

I know I can just bypass it with customize, but I don't need to do that to put enhanced defense on my shield.
The armor and weapon are not official items - as in they are not items you can add to inventory, which is required for the infusions system. The gauntlets are just an action added to the sheet because it cannot add items. If they made the item into the normal items list, then people would be able to select it even for non-artificers which creates confusion, so they won't do that.
As a result, they are just an action and if you want to use your infusion you need to customise it. This isn't going to change. The whole point of the ad hoc customisations is specifically to make up for the other system limits. They are not going to re-code the inventory system or create confusion just to save a very small amount of people the few seconds it would take to customise the action.

Arcane Armor is described as a conduit for the artificer's magic and it is intended to be used with infusions. Firstly, because the armor and its weapons are never described as actually magical itself (just a conduit for it) and also because the 9th level feature specifically lets you expand on the number of infusions you can use on the Arcane Armor. So it is very much intended for an artificer to use infusions on it.

It is what it is.
That's understandable. This prompted a conversation with my DM (along these lines) where he almost didn't let me do that with my infusion because he assumed my arcane armor is magical. Fortunately I convinced him otherwise and he let me do the custom mod on the gauntlets.

More like a limitation of the system.
