As the title says, I am unable to discern why the the traits of my custom species do not appear under "Species Traits" under "Features and Traits" in my player's character sheet. It is left as a blank field, and I have been losing my mind trying to figure out why.
I have created a homebrew species I'm calling Cloudfolk. They have a special trait called Cloudy Nature, which I managed to add successfully as a Species Trait in the editor. The problem comes in when, for whatever reason, it just will not show up when one of my players uses the homebrew race. I have yet to check if the character gets the abilities from the homebrew species trait (more on that in a second). I'm sure if the abilities I list in the trait don't show up on the character sheet, that the issue is related.
The trait's name is Cloudy Nature. The snippet is:
"Your vision cannot be obscured by any sort of fog." (shortened for testing purposes
and the description reads:
"You embody the essence of clouds. Your vision cannot be obscured by any sort of fog. You can cast the fog cloud spell centered on yourself, without the verbal component. Starting at 3rd level, you can cast misty step to teleport anywhere obscured by fog or clouds. Starting at 7th level, while engulfed in fog or clouds, your flying speed increases to half your walking speed, rounded up to the nearest 5 feet. Starting at 11th level, your flying speed increases to your full walking speed. Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells when you cast them with this trait (choose when you select this race)."
The display order is 7, and the Is Called Out? field is checked. Character Levels Where Options Known is 3,7,11. There is one spell, one modifier, one option, and one ability.
What you enter into the description field for your homebrew is what appears on the details page for your homebrew. What appears on the character sheet is what you enter into the snippet fields for your homebrew.
Me neither since it looks as if no species has been selected for that character whatsoever. Did you click the “hide on character sheet” box for every trait or something?
No, this is still under "Edit Species Trait for Cloudfolk"
Might it be possible this is the case because I changed my player's species after they made the character? I don't think it was homebrew before I changed it.
I'm going to try making a new character from scratch to see if this is still a problem. Not sure how helpful it might be, but worth a shot, I guess.
EDIT: Making a fresh new character actually did work. Cloudy Nature now appears in the Species Traits part of the character sheet. EDIT 2: Seems refreshing the species worked. Now I know that every time I make a change to the species, I have to update any character with that species as well (I changed the species of my player's character from Cloudfolk to Dwarf then back again and the trait finally appeared, which is great.)
Hopefully this helps anyone having a similar problem!
