I've purchased the PHB 2014 edition, when I try to create a wizard with the school of illusion subclass it is not available to me - I'm only seeing 4 subclasses from that book for wizard.
I thought the PHB was the only book I needed to purchase for this subclass, am I doing something wrong?
Are you certain you purchased the 2014 PHB? I don’t believe it is offered for sale anymore on DDB.
Are you certain you are using the 2014 “legacy” version of the wizard class and not the 2024 “core rules” version? What level does your character builder let you select a subclass?

Yep. 2014 PHB is still available (4 subclasses are locked behind it entirely).
Make sure Legacy is turned on in your character sheet and scroll down to the legacy Wizard. 2024 Wizard can't see the subclasses from 2014 it reprinted.
Yes, legacy is turned on, which is why i can see at least some of the phb subclasses (before i purchased i had only evoker)
I have since joined my character to a campaign where the owner is sharing several books, and still i only have these subclasses under the phb 2014, so something is wrong. I've tried another character as well, same thing.

Again, make sure you have the legacy/2014 Wizard class selected and not the core/2024 version. It’s not enough to just turn on the legacy toggle; you have to actually select the right version of the class.
Yep, literally just figured this out with the help of others testing in the same campaign.
I think what threw me was even as a character not linked in any campaign, i still had 4 new subclasses available to me after phb purchase, despite only owning the 2014 phb.
Anyways all good, thanks all for your help and suggestions!

I am flabbergasted by that. All I can think of is they are only still offering it until all of the hard copy versions are sold through.

Taking the 2014 PHB away would lock the following subclasses:

Taking the 2014 PHB away would lock the following subclasses:
Cleric: Knowledge, Nature, Tempest
Wizard: Conjurer, Enchanter, Necromancer, Transmuter
Until those are reprinted, I don't see them taking away the purchase option.
