If I'm correct Eldritch Smite and Improved pact weapon are both invocations that are accessed through Xanthar's guide to everything. I bought the Hexblade patron subclass, and my DM has content sharing on and owns the whole book. However I can not read the compendium for it, and can't choose either in the character builder. I just want to understand why.
Correction, I realized what was wrong and I do have them available in the character builder for the character in the campaign. Apparently they don't come with the hexblade subclass. However I still can't read them in the compendium, though I can read many other things unlocked through content sharing. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to plan how to level my character in my DM's campaign if I can't find everything available to me.
Have you fully joined a character to the campaign, even if only a placeholder? Once the campaign is joined, this should open up the shared content and allow you to review the compendium content. Any links to the character and campaign would help.
Yes the character has been a part of the campaign for over two weeks now. She is made and complete. But I still can't read in the compendium on the invocations.
The first link sends me to a dragon and says he has forbidden me from going further.. Which is kinda adorable lol. The second link takes me to the warlock class page and it shows all the same invocations I had before I joined the campaign, even though the character in the campaign has access to a lot more.
Hmm, that means that you don't have access to Xanathar's Guide to Everything via sharing - can you get your DM to check that content sharing is enabled for the campaign? Maybe toggle it off and back on again (I used to work in IT support many years ago - turn it off and on again is a thing).
I have the same issue. I clicked on both of the links you pasted above and they worked (showed me the content) yet I have a 5th level PotB warlock character that can’t see Eldritch Smite. The character in question is not a member of the campaign that has bought XGTE (one of my other characters is) but I didn’t think that mattered?

It does matter that the character is not part of the campaign. Only characters actually in the campaign where content sharing is turned on have access to shared content.

Thank you!

Here's a couple of direct links to try - can you tell me what happens / what you can see when you click each of these?
