I'm guessing this is related to permissions and the fact that it's not easily possible to tag monsters and the like as being part of two sources, but I thought I'd report it in case it is an unintended bug.
I have purchased TOA on DDB, but I do not have Volo's on DDB.
Monsters that are unique to TOA and monsters that were first published in Volos but are reprinted in TOA are treated differently (at least for me) in the monster listings. TOA specific monsters include the lore elements about them that are not part of the statblock. (for example Eblis). But those monsters that are reprinted from Volos include only the statblock, not the lore, even though the lore is reprinted in TOA. (for example yuan-ti broodguard)
Sourcebooks such as Volo's Guide to Monsters provides additional lore as part of that sourcebook.
If an adventure uses a monster from another sourcebook (like using a monster from Volo's) then typically only the stat block of the monster is included in the appendix of that adventure. D&D Beyond takes guidance from Wizards of the Coast on content and how to make it available.
The source system for D&D Beyond allows us to set which sourcebooks/adventures grant access to the stat block for a monster and separately define whether access to extended lore information belongs to a specific sourcebook.
That's what I was guessing, and I'm o.k. with that. My one quibble is this point:

That's not the case with TOA: the lore is reprinted, too. I didn't check to see if the lore is identical, but there is lore in the monster appendix for those monsters that doesn't show up in the listing. (If you have it, take a look at the yuan-ti section in the compendium of TOA). So I can see the lore in the compendium, but not in the listing. It's not a big deal, I just wanted to check in and make sure that it wasn't an unintended consequence that needed to be addressed.

Is this a bug? intended? a necessary side-affect?

Hi there,
this is the intended way for this to work.

Ah thanks for the additional explanation.
I'll talk to staff about this and see if there's a way to improve the user experience there. :)
