I've tried to make a homebrew subclass for Paladin and have just finished it but am unable to publish it? I just get this error message:
This Subclass cannot be shared with the community for the following reasons:
This homebrew Subclass has data mapped to it that is licensed content or private homebrew. This typically occurs when licensed or private homebrew spells are linked to the Subclass.
Remember, private homebrew is automatically shared with other users in your campaigns and does not need to be shared with the community for players to access
As I say, I'm not sure why I can't publish it, I tried going through to see if there's something I perhaps missed but I can't see anything? Here's a link to the subclass if you could take a look:
The spells Armor of Agathys (PHB), Danse Macabre (XGtE), Hex (PHB) and Shadow of Moil (XGtE) in your Additional Specific Spells section are probably to blame! As DxJxC highlights, these spells are not from the basic rules.
You can use the homebrew class you've created, as can other people you are in a campaign with.
For now though, it's not possible to publish homebrew that contains content from sources that need to be purchased.
There are plans to change this in the future, but I don't have details on how that would work I expect something along the lines of the published homebrew telling you which sources you need to have unlocked to use it.
It also might have to do with their agreement with WotC. And I believe they are discussing changing this restriction (or at least considering). Especially since new official content comes out that requires spells from another book.

Thanks a lot in advance.
Does it have spells that are not in the basic rules (aka licenced content)?
Hey there,
The spells Armor of Agathys (PHB), Danse Macabre (XGtE), Hex (PHB) and Shadow of Moil (XGtE) in your Additional Specific Spells section are probably to blame!
As DxJxC highlights, these spells are not from the basic rules.

Standard "free" content is restricted to the D&D 5th Edition Basic Rules, SRD, and other free content.
Oh, is there no way to get around this? Those spells are really like the only ones that fit into the theme of the class.

Okay, thanks anyway.
So even if we have paid for the content we cant use it in the context of a subclass to be made public? What is the logic in this?
It's essentially so that people who don't have that content can still use your homebrew.
It also might have to do with their agreement with WotC. And I believe they are discussing changing this restriction (or at least considering). Especially since new official content comes out that requires spells from another book.
But can you use public homebrew?
??? If you have a subscription (any), yes.
