I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong however the school of necromancy isn’t listed as a selectable option in the character builder despite being in the players handbook. Is there another source material I need instead to make this option appear? Same with other schools except Evocation.
Have you purchased the Player's Handbook or the subclass itself from the Marketplace?
If you haven't, you need to purchase it. You can buy the whole Player's Handbook, the subclass bundle or the individual subclass.
If you have, is your character a Wizard of 2nd level?

Given that D&D Beyond is not WotC and therefore cannot give you non-free for free without specific permission from WotC, so must pay licenses to provide you said content, are not going to take a loss just because you bought something from a different vendor.... Do you go to a local cafe and buy a sandwich, then go into a Subway and expect an identical sandwich for free?
If you want to use the stuff on the character sheet you can use homebrew tools to recreate it yourself for personal use. If you don't want to do that then buy it on here to unlock it.

Believe it or not, you are not even in the first hundred people to ask that.
Now why you are asking it in a completely unrelated, year and a half old thread instead of one of the several dozen threads on that topic is beyond me.
Uh excuse me, I'm having the same issue as the guy above, I have the Player's Handbook and I'm a level 2 wizard. Idk if you can have school of Necromancy at level 2 but yeah. Also since I'm a level 2 wizard, shouldn't that mean that I would have level 2 spells, because I don't see them. Like I don't know if I'm supposed to do something to obtain the spells, but I don't see them.
You don't get level 2 spells until you reach Wizard 3, as per the Wizard table.
As for the School of Necromancy, you should be able to choose it as your Arcane Tradition at Wizard 2 if you own the PHB. Please check your marketplace page to see if your Entitlements are synced and that the PHB appears in your list of purchased products. Please note that you need to own to full sourcebook, not the compendium content – the compendium is just the digital book to read through, it doesn't unlock features for the character builder and other tools.
paying really annoys me so i have to edit the PDF and do a lot of researching before i can actually become a necromancer.
Then do not pay. Use the homebrew tools and integrate the information from the book into Beyond manually.
If you do not want to pay and do not want to spend the time to homebrew, then do not use Beyond or any digital tools. This is literally no different from complaining about having to pay money to own a physical book and also further complain about the physical book not making a character sheet for you.
paying really annoys me so i have to edit the PDF and do a lot of researching before i can actually become a necromancer.
B-but… research is at the very core of what a wizard is! The pursuit of knowledge, the thrill of experimentation, the satisfaction in creating your own magic. This is what distinguishes a wizard from those lazy AF sorcerers.
Near the top under Account Entitlements, it will either say you're in sync or it will offer a button to re-sync. If there's a button, click it. Then try to select the subclass again for your character (may need to refresh first).
If you are in sync or if you've re-synced and it still cannot let you select the arcane tradition, go to the licenses and scroll down to Current Product Licenses. Under there you should see "Player's Handbook 2014". (Note: it must be 2014, not 2024, if it says Player's Handbook 2024, you bought the wrong one). If you do not then your purchase did not go through. Check if the payment was actually taken from your bank: if it wasn't, then you can just buy it as normal, if it was taken you will need to contact support. If you have the license there, and you still cannot select School of Necromancy as your Arcane Tradition as a 2nd Level Wizard, then you will need to contact support.
Support can be contacted by using the Contact Us link at the very bottom of any page. Please be patient - response times can take several days as they are swamped.

I have the PHB, I see other subclasses, but not Necromancer. In the PHB on my account, that class is not there. Did it get removed somehow?
Which PHB do you have?
If it's the new one, they didn't update the necromancer yet.
If it's the old one, you need to turn on the legacy toggle in the character builder. (And possibly scroll down in class selection, depending on whether you're playing with old or new classes.)

You can purchase just the subclass ala carte from the PHB Marketplace page if you don't need the full sourcebook.
