hey, i was wondering, how do i choose way of the shadow? it isn't an option for me
Buy it from Marketplace or have it shared with you. The Way of Shadow subclass isn't free. It's in the Player's Handbook. You can buy just the subclass for $2.99 or the whole PHB. Alternatively if you are in a D&D Beyond campaign where somebody has purchased it and somebody has a Master Tier subscription that person can enable Content Sharing which lets users share any purchased content they've unlocked, with each other. Your character would need to be in the campaign to benefit.
Then be a 3rd Level Monk. The option to choose it as a Monastic Tradition (i.e. Monk subclass) will appear.

If you click/tap the big magnifying glass at the top of the screen and type in Way of the Shadow the second thing on the list is where you can find it. If you follow the link, it will automatically redirect you to the marketplace and the correct book. From there scroll down to see your options.
This fix and more are coming in the character sheet revamp, expected by the end of next month.
