Hi there! I'm trying to create a home-brew race for a private campaign, by combining the aspects of several races into one. I'm having an issue when I create a custom ability. I intended for the race to have a reusable supply of spells, separate from general spells. I created a racial trait that gives the race an ability, but I left most of the boxes empty apart from the limited actions and reset type. This was just so I could use these slots for any of the several abilities, using it like an ability pool rather than giving each one it's own limited number of uses, and increasing the size of the pool every level. However, when I attempt to use this ability on the character sheet at any point, I get an error screen and have to refresh the page. This is my first time creating a homebrew race properly, as our group is pretty casual. What can I do to fix this error screen?
Under that particular racial feature that casts those spells, try making an Action named “Cast a racial spell” (whatever, the name doesn’t matter) mark it as “special” for what type of action it is (instead of action/bonus action) and then save it. Then go back and edit that action, scroll all the way down to the bottom so you can set “limited uses” for the Action.
Whichever spells you add to that same class feature should show up as cast “at will” on the character sheet, however when the player taps/clicks those spells, at the top it lists the name of the subclass feature, touch that name and it can be tracked back to the Action, and you should be able to check those boxes. Add at least two spells to the racial feature so you can test it out. That’s how I did it for a custom subclass I made. Here is a character that uses it, the feature is called “Advanced Precisionist Scope” so you ca find it.
I do know that the new character sheet still has some bugs with homebrew races and attached spells. So if you did it that way and it’s still not working then it might be a bug they are still fixing.
