I can add homebrew monsters to extras without any problems. What specifically are you having trouble with in this regard?

I've created (yet another) Owlcat to be a character's familiar. I can see it as a monster to use in an encounter, but not as a familiar, or beast companion, or druid wildshape
Is homebrew content turned on (red) on the character sheet?

I can not add as a mount do I need to do something special to use it as one?
It must be at least 1 size larger than your character and you must have homebrew enabled for your character.

Bless you for this suggestion. I was trying to create a Homebrew Drake for my player's Drakewarden and I could not get it to load. Didn't realize she had "homebrew" off. Thanks for saving a lot of headache!

It's not; the original issue this thread was about was fixed in 2020. Can you be more specific about the problem you're having now?

is there a field in the homebrew monster to tag something as a familiar/summon/misc? I cannot get mine to load and I'm wondering if I'm missing adding it to its respective group, but I cannot figure out where I would tag it as a familiar, etc.
No, there isn't.
However, those categories don't really have much functional meaning and it doesn't really matter which one you select. Homebrew monsters should show up in the list if you have the "Homebrew" source checked on the Home tab of the character builder.
