That does work, but it doesn't fix the problem. In the same way that if my toilet were broken I could cross the street and ask to use my neighbour's every time I needed to go, but that's unnecessarily inconvenient and quite a difficult one to explain to guests. "Why don't you just get your toilet fixed?" They would ask. "But my neighbour's works fine!" I would desperately keen.
Highlighting text in desktop view on mobile for formatting is extremely inconvenient, as is trying to read other posts if you need to refer to what your fellow players have typed. Reviewing your work is awkward. Switching back and forth is not an option because posts can be lost when changing view. The fact that the code for dice rolls and inline tool tips has been shared suggests this could be done but won't be. All in all it does not sit well with the sites's published design philosophy of "mobile first".
Are there any plans to change this or is desktop view considered good enough?
But if you rotate your phone and you turn off the Portrait lock... holycrap!
Either you're a genius or I'm a complete moron! I'll let you choose which, but you can only choose one :D
Thank you very much. May your rolls be high, your DCs low and your DMs open to homebrew.
(there is part of me thinking it still doesn't fix the problem, grumble grumble grumble, but who cares? I've got dice to roll, goblins to slay and emboldened orange text to shout at them while I do it! Yer a star!)
Is parsing of markup formatting omitted to reduce sanitizing work? It's really unpleasant to use Desktop mode on mobile, just to be able to *embolden* or _italicize_ something.
I also request markup formatting support. Is there a Feature Request area we could link to, here?

I’m not sure what you mean. I do approximately 99.99% of everything I do on DDB on a mobile device, and using the mobile version of the site. I can make things bold or italicized, or even underlined using those functions as they are built into my phone without needing to use DDB’s tools to do them.

Try rotating the phone into Landscape mode.
That doesn't work! Don't be silly.
