Hi, i was creating a homebrew item but when i checked "Requires attunement" checkbox, and this happened. This field (attunement description) is labeled as required but is optional.

It is not optional if you check requires attunement

 If you fill it in in completed the phrase (requires Attunement by a....) if you leave it Blake it just says “requires Attunement.” It is optional.
