Is there anyway around this? I have a pact of the celestial warlock and I wanted him to have and always known cure wounds. I chosen magic initiate feat (warlock) because of the celestial pact it makes cure wounds be a warlock spell for me. I can't choose any spells in my extended spell list. I tried this with other classes like divine soul sorcerer but still no luck.
I have to disagree with you in the wording it says "The __________ lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you." It says that with every expanded spell list feature and the feat says "You learn two cantrips of your choice from the warlock's spell list." "In addition, choose one 1st-level spell from the warlock's spell list. You learn that spell and can cast it at its lowest level. Once you cast it, you must finish a long rest before you can cast it again using this feat."
You’re more than welcome to disagree. That is irrelevant to the fact that I am referring to the official ruling on the subject. That official ruling is why DDB has it programmed the way it is. In short, is working exactly as intended since DDB is under contractual obligation with WotC, the company that actually publishes D&D. If you disagree wilting them on the subject, the lead designer for D&D is named Jeremy Crawford and he responds on Twitter.

It has taken me this effing long to find this thread again. 🙄 I couldn’t remember the subject and kept searching terms related to warlocks and such and could not find it. Then I had an “aha” and checked ”Initiate” and here we are. (I post a lot so searching through pages of my own posts took forever and either I didn’t go back far enough or missed it.)
Anyway, I did some research and asked some folks and it appears that you were right and I was wrong. Those spells absolutely do get added to “The Warlock Spell List for you” like you said. So I would like to apologize to you. Sincerely I mean it.
So one of two things may be going on. Either, the rules for Magic Initiate are in some way bound to “The Warlock Spell List” and not “Your Warlock Spell List” and so the extra spells don’t count in that regard. Or it is a DDB system limitation of the software.
If it is the former, then it is still working properly. If it’s the latter, then I can possibly tell you how to homebrew a fix for yourself I’m not 100% it’ll work exactly as it’s supposed to as I haven’t tried it in this context before, but I’ll let you know when I figure that out.
Again, my apologies.

Update, I tried something I thought might work but it doesn’t. So the only way to make it work “properly” is to make a copy of the Warlock version of the feat, and then edit the 1st-level spell that it grants by removing “Warlock” from the “spell class” and the “1” from “Spell Levels” and then add both Cure Wounds and Guiding Bolt an the other (spookily) 13 1st-level spells from the actual Warlock spell list all by name to that one thing. Then change the name of the feat to reflect the customization and re-save the entire feat. That part’s very important. Then you can add the homebrewed version to your character sheet instead of the original and it will work exactly the way you thought it should.
But that would have to be done individually for each subclass, and that would not take into account things like Spells of the Mark from Eberron, or Ravnica background spells however, so if you had your spell list expanded like that from multiple sources then you would have to include all of them as well, including the Cantrip options to accommodate for those if applicable.
Again, sorry for the bad information, I hope this helps.
Just make a HB version of feat and instead of choice for spell just add the Cure Wounds spell and have it use Cha as spellcasting ability.
To get it to work precisely for "added spells" to spell list when you are a specific subclass and all that would be a major fluffing headache for the devs to code up, taking days to more likely weeks. - Whereas making a HB version of the feat takes like 2 mins (if you're used to homebrewing then its like 30 seconds).

Subclass specific spells “count as Warlock Spells for you” but are not actually “added to the Warlock Spell List for you.”
