Hi there. I’m trying to create a homebrew race, and the ability modifiers and the languages are not showing up when you choose the race. What’s weird is that races I’ve created in the past, of which I still have assigned to characters, show these options on existing characters but not on new characters made with the same race. I made a copy of the published race (I wish I had noticed this before I published it) and with it being exactly the same, the ability modifier showed up, and the language option is still missing. I’m not sure what to do here. Any suggestions?
You have to hit “create new version” and then go find it in your creations so you can start to edit that. Then you have to check that you attached the right features with the right descriptions, and the right modifiers attached.
What exactly are your plans for the subclass? I can help with the modifiers if you need.
Test everything on a character to make sure it works before publishing.
It’s a race, and I did all that. Like I said I know it was correct, because it was a copy of another homebrew race that HAD worked. Then the abilities didn’t show up. And on the original race, no changes made to it, new characters with that race are now missing abilities too, even though the older characters I have of that race are still displaying correctly.
and I did test it on a character, I just missed the fact that it was missing that ability because it is still correctly listed in the description.
You can check if you want, I’m not sure how to link but is published as Jes Tiefling. Ability mods and language are what’s not showing, but I’m pretty sure they’re correct.
No I’m on an iPad. I used Tiefling as a template, just like with the other race I created that used to work and doesn’t anymore on new characters with no changes being made. I have another homebrew race used changeling as a template that seems to still be working.
edit: ive been pouring over these and it seems the problem is choice of options. Even languages (which I said common and choose one) is not listed, common still displays, as does the +2 charisma, but the +1 of your choice does not register. The charisma and common are automatically added and the choice is left blank with no option to choose.
And you changed that second one from the original which would have been Infernal. Correct? After you save any modifiers you gotta go and re-save the entire homebrew using the main “save changes” button under Basic Information. Publishing it should have theoretically pushed that through if you didn’t, so that’s still a weird one. Very curious.
Post a link to your homebrew so a Mod can look at it for you. They can see it even if it’s unpublished.

Weird. Very wired. What race did you use as a template?

So, for the language, you added two modifiers:
