It sometimes does that when you choose the manual hp option over the fixed amount. Just go into the hp settings and set "rolled hp" to the desired amount (not including constitution or dwarven toughness or anything like that).
You must have selected “manual” HP before selecting your class. Whenever a user does that, the system doesn’t know which die type to use, so it defaults to the largest possible die size, which is the Barbarian’s d12. Simply set your “rolled HP” to 8 and it will be corrected.

with my d8 hit die and +3 constitution modifier I thought it would be 11...
