I cannot for the life of me see why this first level rogue with a 6 CON has 10hp rather than 6hp, any thoughts?

Because the player selected to use the alternative method for rolling HP prior to selecting their class. When that happens the system doesn’t know what sized hit did to use, so it defaults to the Barbarian’s d12. simply remove the 4 superfluous HP.
