Is there some way that Wizards can make this happen? Sometimes we want to lug books around and sometimes we only want our iPads, depending on the situation. Why stifle choice where we have to buy it twice? You know what I mean?
I'm reading this FAQ and it makes this program seem like a useless money grab. Wizards owns D&D Beyond but someone else owns the store. Blah blah blah. It just sounds weird. What's the purpose of buying this anyway if you have to buy the books twice? Waste of money.
Wizards has only owned dndbeyond for a few days. Though I don't know if they'll ever actually implement a hardcover book -> digital content policy, if they do it will be at least a little while.
Would you ask for a second copy of the PHB and a set of spell cards for free because you purchased one PHB? That's essentially what you are asking for.
In addition, even though WOTC now owns DDB, how are they supposed to cover the cost of converting the "books" into the tools and the highly formatted/linked compendium if they don't charge for it?
It is pretty rude to not acknowledge all the work and effort that people put into their work and not compensate them for it. If you do not want to spend money on the digital tools, you are more than welcome to spend your own time to use private homebrew to integrate the physical books into Beyond yourself.
I mean, if you read the thread, there's a whole chapter on that....

There is a vast difference between "This is what I want" and "This is what I need." You are deeeeeep in the "This is What I Want" territory.
Since you don't want to pay twice, don't. Just... er... don't expect to use DNDBeyond Ready-Made Books.
Problem solved.
