There have been many great suggestions so far, but I wanted to make sure to add my two coppers worth.
I play pretty exclusively at a weekly AL table at my local store. I used to run a PC, but because we have so many people showing up I've started DMing as well. In my particular case, many of the innovations mentioned would be, sadly, wasted, because we are on such a tight schedule - we all show up, we jump into the module immediately, and then we go home.
What may be helpful is two versions of the Character Sheet - a basic version that can be filled out and used either on the screen during play just like the paper version (but with hyperlinks and pop-up information about spells and abilities) and an advanced version, with all of the customizable tabs and whatnot like people are talking about.
On my character sheets, I usually have to list my abilities and for things like Fighter maneuvers I have to draw boxes in ink that I can use to keep track of my superiority dice. I don't know that you need to create specific sheets for each class, but maybe have sections of text/abilities relevant to various classes and races available like an a la carte menu, where you can drag and drop sections onto a sheet template. If you're really enthusiastic, have those a la carte options expand automatically as your character gains levels.
At any rate, thanks again for what promises to be a really exciting piece of kit!

You make a good point, and I think that just furthers the point of options and customization.

Do not expect people to be smart, but do not allow them to be stupid. If there is one thing I have learned it is this.
I would actually really like a "map page" option, where I can easily track which cities I've been to, and maybe even make notes about what I did there, or where major npcs reside. A lot of the time my roleplay gets lost because I can't recall if I've even been to such and such town, or where I ran into that awesome dragon, a map with little drop pins would really help track that. Oh! and little feet marks can show up to show the route that we traveled. This could also be a really cool way to share how different parties tackled major adventures.
I love this idea! I would suggest this goes into the Notes page instead of haveing a dedicated Map page but the idea is really solid. The map idea would be really useful if both DM and Player could access it to update notes.
1) An editable notes page. Would be super cool if images and handouts could be added to the notes page, but then it might become a character folder instead of a character sheet.
2) Please make the 'ideal - trait - bond' background descriptors editable. It helps my players get into character if they have even a small amount of customization there (e.g. the sailor listing the name of the ship they first served on).
3) Click - to - roll with modifier fields?
4) Some way to shorten or separate spell lists for druids and clerics. I find my newer players have really benefitted from MPMB's character sheet's pithy spell lists.
so for me prsonally i like all the different rule variants and classes and races so i was wondering if you would add some of that in the sheets like moon elf, storm sorcerer, path of the battle rager, deep gnomes, etc. you get the point. i hope this will be in the future for D&D beyond.
I've read great ideas all around here... instead of summarizing and re-posting the ones I want, I'll make use of that handy "Like" marker to let the admins know what I agree with ;)
So the two things I haven't read yet, and I know I'm in the 0.1% of the people who needs them are:
An app has been mentioned. Will it be available also for Windows 10 and Windows mobile?
I'd like the character sheet (and eventually the campaign tracker) to be available even when offline, giving the option to make changes that will then reflect later when you get online and update them (pretty much the same as Microsoft OneNote works). My party play by the pool during summer, and my house's wifi doesn't reach that area.
I use a wiki for my character sheet because it stores a history of every version of the page to ever have existed. If I make a mistake, or I don't understand something about my character sheet, I can go back through the history to see where I went wrong. It this new digital character sheet stored a history record of changes made, it would be appreciated. It doesn't need to be elaborate as a full replication of its previous state. Just a list of things like "-6hp. +2gp. Etc."
Not sure if this have been mentioned or not, but I think that an option to fill in details for a rangers companion animal might be helpful for this class.
I know that homebrew is probably going to be something you add yourself, but what about the Unearthed Arcana options? It might aid the playtesting of new UAs if you could use it immediatly in your character sheet, or as a DM easily look up and apply the new/variant rules added. Adding a small code in front of the options (like SRD, UA, PHB, etc) might be helpful in that case. If you need more information, you could easily trace it back to its source and look it up.

I would love there to be a page kind of solely for items. So you can write down the item, its weight, and how many. And maybe at the bottom your carry capacity and drag capacity.
Other than that I loved a character sheet that had the small boxes (Like AC, Initiative, speed currently) But was Max HP, Current, and Temp HP and I really liked them being three smaller boxes.
Well, My hope for the character sheets is that they might be easily Portable to VTTs. Being able to put a link from my character sheet on DnDB into Roll20, and have the roll20 sheet automatically fill out would be awesome. Not that 5E sheets are that hard to fill out, it would just make it faster.
Also, an advanced Sheet option, that shows all of the equations, and allows you to click on a number to find out what is adding that number to the equation (Dex, Jack of All Trades, Rakkish Audacity, etc.)
This, yes. Having the ability to download a fully documented json file of your character so that it can be easily incorporated into Roll20 would be outstanding.
Although it has been mentioned earlier, Modular character sheet sound like a good idea, and it could even change into different "workspaces" such as combat or social. The automation ideas sound marvelous as well, such as carry capacity and skills (if a dice roller is included.
Custom Class (add this feature along with officials) Either start from fresh, or being able to edit an official class or download a homebrew class from a "content creator" or "DMs Guild"
Custom Race (add this feature) with the ability to be copied, dragged, or pinned from DM homebrew campaign or create your own where the DM can verify and add it into the games campaign page.
Inventory or Equipment that is home brewed has a different colour or perhaps an icon to the right of the text. So the DM can see if some item has been homebrewed. Perhaps with different colours (Red, yellow and green) depending on if a DM has approved a proposal.
Home Brew rules for Short Rests and Long Rests.
Every rule that is homebrewed or modified has the texts colour change and again it could have a colour code involved from red, yellow and green. (Green approved, yellow moderated/undecided, red declined/unseen)
All these must have some kind of compatibility with Roll20. Or I say now you will dine in the 9 hells for eternity!! (a conversion API for roll20 pro users would be minimal)
Not gonna lie, the idea of getting a little Happy Birthday message in D&D Beyond for my favorite playable character would be rather fun. Kind of like flavor text on MTG cards.

If it auto-added options as necessaty
I pick druid - it auto adds druid features and usefull doodads
I pick circle of the moon - It auto adds available forms and updates the abilities
would be awesome
etc.

I'm hoping that the character sheets will have integration with Adventurer's League, in the very least the ability to have a log sheet for a character

My wish list for the character sheet feature is NOW!

My players tend to accumulate animals, so this would be great!
