as a Dm, I want to be able to push updates to my players sheets. I want the sheets to be smart. I want the ability to create an item and throw it out into the virtual world, and when the PCs decide who gets it, it automatically is added to their sheets.
It would be nice to Start a Session and the DM app knows what PCs are present
I Want homebrew capabilities on sheets. I use a different encumbrance ruleset

DM: "the dragon is there, sitting on his pile of gold"
PCs: let's gather all our and the towns gold and give it to him. That'll surely create jobs"
Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but I really hope the Character Creator bit is NOT just OGL or Basic rules. I want to be able to make a Drow or Dragonborn right away so I can play around with those options. Do we have any word on if the Beta for the Character Creator is going to encompass everything from the PHB DMG, and MM?
My guess is that upon release of Phase 2 all content will be SRD. I wouldn't mind unlocking core rulebooks at that time if they opened up subscription options though.

I had that exact thought pretty much. The ability to tag a players character to your campaign and use that tag to update data. Especially for magic items. They find an item, identify it, but only know certain details about it. Maybe an item has extra conditions that need to be met before it its fully active (I do this a lot). We should be able to say "Here is the item, here is how it works (for now)" and after condition X is met we can push an update to that item changing it from +1 Longsword to +3 Defender or whatnot.
Although I guess that's really a suggestion for both the character sheets and the upcoming campaign management.

That's a pretty major concern for me. How am I going to "know" that everything works, if I can't play around with everything? I get that functionality can be tested without all the fiddly bits of every rule, but if we're here trying to work out the kinks and bugs, shouldn't that mean the kinks and bugs for all the content that will eventually be available?
As I said, it's a guess. The only knowledge I have of the platform is the same knowledge you all have. Maybe they will open up all core options for testing, but I don't see WotC allowing that.

I agree, which is why I felt the desire to actually post something about it. I'm realistic. I don't expect WotC to open up everything, not based off of all past experience, but dndbeyond does feel, at least for now, like an attempt to do things well, and to listen to their current audience. So I'll hope in one hand, and remain realistic in the other, and see which one fills up first. :)
I feel like it might have been helpful to have access to at least one non-SRD source or even have one example entry in each feature of a non-SRD thing (item/monster/etc). I see a few people whose complaints seem to be based more on how they want to use the product now than on how it effects the beta, but it might be helpful to be able to see how DNDB deals with those categorizations, especially in the issue of unlocked vs locked content and how users interact with it. Like, will the app constantly be reminding of us what we don't have access to (would be annoying), make what we don't have completely invisible to us (slightly less annoying), or some comfortable in between with a checkbox? For the character races, it'd be nice to be able to see only what races I have access to, but be able to turn on a list of what I don't have (just the names) with links to how/where I could get them. This is really even more important in the other features, like the monster list and whether those entries would be effected by filters, and exactly how much info could be gotten about that content by using filters... Either way, not having non-SRD content at all will be especially frustrating from a beta-tester perspective on character generation because there are already apps for that. This character generator is going to need to be both incredibly impressive in itself and seamlessly integrated with the rest of the app's features in order to get over the hurdle of only giving access to SRD content just because it will bore the testers if it doesn't. That said, I'm still optimistic that this can be done and look forward to it.
Something I'd like to see is a feature that marks off 1 per short/long rest once you've used them. Then you can have a button or something that will let you perform a rest on your character sheet, then it will reset all the marked off features depending on what kind of rest you took. It could also do a reminder to prepare new spells on a long rest for wizard/cleric/etc.
That same mechanic could be useful for non-character attached beasties (familiars, war-horses, trained attack poodles, etc).
What's the better user experience?
Class-defined bestiaries built into a character sheet
or
User curated lists of things that can be added to a character sheet?
The latter. So much. But I agree, maybe some way to streamline things so extra layers can be added as the user likes, but prevent it from clogging up the interface and such.
A very general suggestion I have about character sheets, after going through many different custom character sheets in many different games, is to give players a lot of choice over what they want to display. It's especially important considering the number of suggestions in this thread that would simultaneously be awesome for some players, and kind of a waste of space for others.
Let's say I'm a DM and I want to make sheets for NPCs. I make a sorcerer. Maybe the PC version of that sorcerer would like a nice dedicated place to put their current and max sorcery points, but maybe the NPC version is hardly ever going to fight and that'll just be clutter most of the time.
Or we could be around a table that doesn't typically write the roleplaying information on their character sheet. Or a table that doesn't care all that much about weight and therefore doesn't keep track of it on the character sheets and just tries to be reasonable overall.
Anyways, my suggestion would be to give players the option to show/hide pretty much anything in their character sheets. Make them modular enough that you can hide or remove any panel, and maybe save preset configurations to use on other characters.
(I'm really excited for phase 2, it's going to be awesome)

I don't have time to go through everything in this forum for a wish list but wanted to say a couple of suggestions.
First, official character sheets, for printing at least. A lot of people are suggesting lots of options like custom character sheets and such, but I'd really like to see the standard ones. The one from the PHB and access to the AL versions for running various campaigns.
DM approval of characters. If players have access to everything in DnDbeyond including Homebrew content i'd really like to approve characters for my campaigns. Not that I believe players cheat or anything but approval would help me identify character hooks and weed out game slow downs.
I'd also like to second the ability for a DM to access player character sheets, either by a direct access to the backend or via sharing of links. Either way its helpful when planning or running things.
What I was thinking about is coming into this thread from a DM's side. As a Dungeon Master who constantly tries (and fails) keeping track of the many resources (both player and NPC/enemy) like legendary actions, channel divinity, barbarian rage, bardic inspiration, etc. I'd find it extremely handy if there would be a sheet option to cross things off during the round and then refresh it on top-of-the-round.
As for the already mentioned health tracker, it could be cool to have a virtual room, set up by the DM, where the players can join (via Bluetooth or some similar way) and it transmits their health (and maybe the aforementioned class resources) to the DM. Maybe not only health, but with the players' character sheet connected, also things like Passive Perception, ammunition and alike.
Things that would be great: * customized trackers that can help track class/subclass features (ki points, arcana recovery, fury, etc), feats (luck points), ammunition, potions, etc. If I choose one option that has tracks, it is automatically added. But I can create some by: name, type, resets on (short rest, long rest, dawn, never, etc).
* the attack area could add cantrips, even the ones that does damage but doesn't have an attack roll (poison spray)
* customized printable version (maybe xml, html/css). So not only I can print using the default, but I can download one or create mine
* share button. I can send the character to my friends or even the community. This way my DM could have all sheets and someone could download some character to use on the fly. Option to hide some information (like notes).

Going off of this same list feature, some multi-class variants have a lot of attack/bonus attack options. It would be cool if a list and favorite menu was there to select an attack and see a short description with relevant stats based on your character
I would like all he unearthed arcana in the character sheet. My dnd group allows all the unearthed arcana as I'm sure others do to. Also give a spot for more not as used stuff like exhaustion, spell like pass without a trace ect.
Some of the suggestions I'm seeing might fall more under campaign management, rather than the character sheet (sharing of characters, tracking rests, etc)
Some of the things that I hope it does right out of the gate:
1. Custom sheets (or sections) for each class. If I choose fighter, I don't need to see spell options. Until I multiclass of course :) 2. The Character sheet should auto-calc as you choose options, feats, etc... (i.e. when I choose my race, my Abilities should adjust). 3. There should be a breakdown somewhere of what goes into the calculations (If I drill down on my STR score, I see that my initial score was 14, with a +2 from race, +2 from level 4, etc...) 4. Ability to organize the sections of your sheet so that the layout can be how you want it to be (portrait / landscape as options too) 5. Auto fill for spells and abilities (If i choose a feat, it's text should auto fill) 6. Ability to export / save as .pdf 7. Section(s) for Wild Shape forms / Animal Companions / Familiars 8. Prompts for steps when creating the character / leveling -- This could be as simple as initial entries into certain areas (Pick 2 languages, Pick your archtype, etc.) 9. Character Portrait -- have some available, allow import of images for this purpose 10. Print right from webpage / app or print from .pdf 11. Ability to print a DM cheat sheet, possibly in 3x5 layout, maybe in "tent mode"?
I think that is most of what I would like to see out of the gate :) Hope it isn't asking TOO much!

I don't know if it was proposed, but a feat list may be a plus on the character sheet.
