It would probably help if regular users weren't able to make new threads in certain subforums and instead could only post replies to official threads where appropriate.

AKA my sluice gate solution But substitute "regular" users with "New".
I don't think you meant to say regular users...

I actually did. There's no reason that you or I should be allowed to post a new thread in the News and Announcements subforum. That should be staff only. Replies are a different story, where appropriate, but they already lock threads that shouldn't be getting replies as they make them there so that's a nonissue at this point.

Every time a significant update or maintenance is done the site seems to go through this, and it appears to be getting worse as of late.
It really does get annoying and hopefully will be resolved quickly. For a time it had stopped, but it looks like it will continue for a while longer.
Multiple spam post across multiple channels by different accounts over a short period gives the impression someone or something is poking at the site and that is starting to give some an uneasy feeling.

That is completely understandable. We're still working on discovering the root of the issue, and I hope to have some updates for y'all soon. In the meanwhile, I can only continue to thank y'all for being on top of reporting them.

I am concerned with the sheer amount of spambots/scambots that aren't being shut down fast enough.
It's making the forums near-unusable in places.
The sluice gate for low-post accounts I have proposed has NEVER looked like a better idea.
Seriously, PLEASE fix your security, because these bots are making it REALLY hard to read the forums wherever they turn out.
User reports aren't working fast enough to clean these up.

Thanks for your diligence in reporting them when they pop up (as well as anyone else who reads this and does so).
We're working on improving the spam filters and other security methods that will help to prevent these waves of bots coming through.

I third this. Report so many of them it's unreal. Hopefully you can get on top of it soon!

General Discussion just got ********ed by 3 spambots. 19 spam posts in 50 mins. Holy crapfluff.

It is an unfortunate reality that the spambots are currently outpacing antispam technology.
