On the Compendium main listing, it is now broken into chapters across multiple columns (depending on screen size). However, the columns do not flow logically when there's multiple of them. Inside of a chapter, the links flow from top-to-bottom. However, the chapters themselves are left-to-right, leading to a very odd reading pattern (illustrated below).
I think that it would flow a lot better if the chapters went down sequentially in each column. This would make it significantly easier to find the next "block" of content in the event you want to go through step-by-step (as would be the case when creating a character, for instance), and overall would mean less bouncing around. The break from chapters 8 to 9 to 10 is especially jarring as chapter 10 starts vertically above chapter 9.
I've made a terrible mock-up in paint of what it'd look like rearranged, and I think it flows nicer this way. Your eyes start at the top of the column and go all the way down that column before moving to the next one, just like if you were reading a multi-column newspaper or article.
This was the first thing I saw as well. I'm glad someone else had the same thought. Another variant would be to continue to use the left to right organization, but the next and each proceeding row need to have their headers aligned.
I notice from my phone that the chapters go in order, so I wonder how much influence that had on the current ordering. Anyway, I think down would probably work better. Stuff that is connected should be grouped together. SO all the Chapters about character options should be in one column. (In the sample, moving chapter four over.)
Yeah, this does not flow properly at all when spread out, but if I force the browser to seeing only one column at a time it is marvelously in order. ;)

Part of the reason columns are better is because DND Beyond is most likely going to be used for reference during a game. It makes more sense to have the material organized by that. To that end I think the chapter numbers in the PHB could have used better ordering. But anyway. If you are quickly looking for reference it makes sense to have similar things together. Personally I doubt I'm ever going to remember Chapter five is the equipment chapter. Instead looking for the Equipment section.
Can the column, once clicked, be pulled into the details page your looking at. For example when I click in chapter 5 I get the over view of the equipment rules but in order to look at armor I need to go back the the main compendium page and then click on armor.
Thanks again everyone - we're working on re-organizing the compendium pages right now that will improve the experience. Stand by for updates in the next few days!

I see what you mean. If I click on Chapter 5 it takes me to the first section only of chapter 5 rather than an overview and contents page of chapter 5. Chapter headings should not be linking to the first thing only on the list under it, but to its own page with maybe overview and contents page that matches links under it in the full compendium listing. I am sure this is something being looked at, but had to play with it myself to see what was being talked about.

Thanks for the feedback - we are completely reworking this page in the near future now that so much more content has been added.

I'm not the only one that reads down columns rather than across! *high fives peeps*
As Badeye mentioned, they are taking on board the feedback - end goal is to have something useful that is also pleasing on the eyes. :)

Can I also add that it would be very useful to have a "Next Chapter" link at the bottom and/or top of each chapter page.
