If you only want to play a specific character, such as a Hexblade warlock, then you can purchase just the subclass that you want, rather than the full book and, best of all, if you decide to later purchase the book that content was from, it'll be discounted by the amount you've already spent.
D&D Beyond is a scam, if I but the physical book I should be able to sue that content digitally, no matter where I bought the book from.
You don't *need* to use D&D Beyond. It's an option for playing, not a requirement. You can always use normal pen and paper character sheets with your physical books.
D&D Beyond is not WotC. If they give you access to non-free content they have to pay the license fees, which they recoup by getting it from you.
You can use the homebrew tools to recreate what you need on here FOR FREE.
If you want to just have the ability to add things to the FREEdigital character sheet without putting in the work - then pay them for going to all that trouble for you.

Not to mention the incredible level of entitlement someone has to have access to a digital tool. I'm sure they want to get a free blue ray of a movie they bought in VHS or a free Itunes song because they have it on CD or new copy of the book from Amazon because they bought one from Walmart. They want DND Beyond to do the work for free instead of doing the work themselves.
While I appreciate the frustration let's not devolve into name-calling.
Better to explain, help them realise, maybe point out benefits and perhaps they'll consider being a customer. That's not going to happen if we insult them.

Is there a way to get the digital content if we have the physical books? If not is there plans to do so?
Hi there PennySnowfox,
you're welcome to use the Basic Rules on D&D Beyond for absolutely free, including using the character builder and the homebrew tools.
We're not able to offer the digital content, such as the Player's Handbook, based on ownership of physical books though, sorry!
There's a thread that explains some of the reasons why here:

Hope this helps!

Not sure it was necessary to make an account and necro a 2 year old thread to post this untrue statement

So sick of these entitled wombats appearing every few months and demanding peoples work be given to them for free. Getting totally boring now.
