Adam Bradford has consistently said that WOTC has not given the green light to include Planeshift materials here, and he has said they had to ask for permission to include one grung above and the Tortle package. One Grung Above in particular involved repeated requests to WOTC, based on requests here.
That's exactly the kind of info I was hoping for (if not the more positive addition of the content to the compendium). I wasn't able to find anything via search. Thank you. Maybe if more request it here... :)
No, otherwise Unearthed Arcana would be official. Official content is content released by WotC in a book or product like One Grung Above or the Tortle Package, and it will say if it is official. The planeshift articles are not official.
None of the examples you list say anything about being "official" nor does the Elemental Evil Player's Companion. They're all PDFs published by WotC as supplements. What's more, the actual description of One Grung Above in the DDB marketplace contains the sentence "These are intended for fun and are not legal for D&D Adventurers League," which doesn't convey much in the way of "official" sentiments.
UA is very clearly labeled for playtest and not official.
Once again, I can understand if they don't want to include Plane Shift on DDB for one reason or another but this thread is specifically for requesting things. So I did.
completely agree with that. reading the planeshift books, they are as unofficial as unearthed arcana and other pieces like one grung above and the tortle package. yet those two made it to here. we even have a magic the gathering switch in which to put them in. i think the problem do not lie in WotC, i think the problem lie within ddb who probably doesn'T want to add those books. we're talking planeshift books who paved the way for the ravnica book and the theros book. if anything they should be availlable. if they are doing unearthed arcana here they should be doing the planeshift books too.

thank you for the answer. i have been watching a lot of dev update lately, well every friday since last year and i haven't seen any of those. so i guess it was before that. but nevertheless thanks for a true answer that isn't just... its unofficial. we've seen a lot of unofficial stuff here on ddb, so i think that answer is just unacceptable at this point. but if they did try a lot to get it and wotc says no, then i guess thats it.

I would love to see premade encounters or import encounter.
Example. I have an adventure I bought here and am running it. I would love to just click on a button that says run encounter room C6 (for example) and it brings me to the encounter edit page where I just make any adjustments then run it.
It seems like a large ask as most encounters are one type of enemy but its nice on the more complicated to just import the 6 zombies, 2 wights, and 4 skeletons right into combat.
Is there a better search engine coming? I would love something that wouldn't just give me things with the words in its description but instead might look at the catagory i'm looking for.
Example:. When looking up "rest" I would love to get the rules on resting rather than every creature or class that happens to use the word "rest" in it's description somewhere.
In the encounters builder and initiative tracker it would be nice if we could add or remove or even edit initiatives after the encounter has started rather than backing out and starting over. I often use the tracker to keep track of hit points.
Also if it could pull up basic information on the player charecters like AC, Hit points, maybe even what items are selected as in use for the dm to see and help track like it does for creatures.
Could we have a favorites tab where we could add pages we want quick access to? You could put a creature link or a class that would be quicker and easier to access? Maybe you have a magic items you want the description of ready in a moment, or even a place to quickly select a charecter your playing.
It would be great if digital book purchases included a few character creation slots!
I bought all of my books through dndbeyond, but I'm not playing in a campaign currently or so I can't justify subscribing.
You need to understand that hosting the compendium and everything around that is a set cost while every added character presents some added dynamic costs. That is what subscriptions are paying for. You pay monthly because your characters cost monthly. There is no justification for you to get something that costs constantly for a one-time fee.

that'S the thing... take exemple on DCUO. that game has been up and running for quite some times. and it just do that thing. it allows you subbing if you want, it also allows you to make some micro transactions. but most of all it allows you to have a certain number of characters per servers. and if you buy any content at all. they give you something to reward you for encouraging them. they give you more character slots. so the very reason you are giving is just a cope out, because it is something thats already being done by other companies.
you are also assuming that no new players are coming every days or every weeks. thats a big no, thats not how cost works... every new arrivals athat arrives every weeks actually starts paying for you as soon as they buy anything. most of the database is just text, and text do not take more then 1 byte per character. that do not take a lot of space. their content is their content... they pay for that themselves already and would just lie any of us if we were to use one drives or our own hard drives to save our stuff. no the real thing is... those subs do not pay for the content and the servers... new players using their engine does. the same is true for isp and the likes. why do you think they make so much good calls for new comers, their goal is to keep their new comers 1 or 2 months, then their money is done, we pass to someone else. the same is true for any of us subbers, they don't care for us after the first 2 or 3 months, if we keep going after that their money is done, its all added bonuses. thats how subbing works. their goal is to attract more people... but attracting more people is hard when your people already have problems subbing because your subs do not give enough for them.
now... heres my view on what ddb should do about this issue that is very very very real ! first off, the issue is... when you start creating characters, you rarely can stop and you start making adjustments and adjustment, to the point where you wonder what if you were doing more characters and settle on one you like. that's fine and dandy if you play only 1 or 2 or 3 characters. but in a time where internet gameplay is often used, one can end up having more then 20 characters to choose from and maybe have them all played. so how can we solve this issue ?
solution #1 - If you buy more then 25$ overall, we give you a reward of 6 free character slot. thanks for supporting us ! now you can have up to 12 characters.
Solution #2 - the ability to buy new character slots, let's say you can buy 2 slots for 1$. people usually have about 30 or so characters, so thats literally 15$ in their pockets.
Solution #3 - release a package. Player package doesn't just give you book content, but also a few dice sets and a few other character slots. DM package would be something else.
there are many issues to this actual way they are doing things, and i fear they don't get the maximum they should, just because they aren't doing it right and refuses to do it better ? subscriptions are the main issues here, they preffer subs, i agree thats great, but those subs aren't giving you anything outrageous and they should. but thats the problem, people don't think the subs are worth it because of how small the reward of it is. worse, the ddb team only argument is, share it between you and thats gonna cost you less. pushing even more onto the fact that not everybody should subs. this is entirely wrong of an approach. on the contrary subs should be the go to for people, not the micro transactions.
right now... hero subs are not worth it. DM subs, are for only a rare breed. heres what the subs should be doing... - hero subs is for players, thus it should give players what they desire. more character slots Access to all the player content builder. not the full book content, just the magic spells, the races and the classes and subclasses. Access to some basic dice. - DM Subs... well give access to all the books... Give them a bit better dice. rename the thing because DM subs is stupid at this point, rename it Legendary sub.
the fact is, subs should be better then anything else and what games do with subs is enables you to actually play the game as it should be played, you are paying more then the game price at this point anyway. i mean you play for 2 months, you payed 30$, thats also most the price of the game if you buy it. can't expect people to play more then that.
now let's look at the competition to see what they offer... WITHOUT SUBS !!!! - free software use with SRD. Unlimited charcater slot to build characters with. Free homebrew softwares, you can do whatever you want.
see where things gets wrong here on ddb ? we literally have to pay for everything here, the SRD is totally empty... though not DDB's fault at least. we have barely any charcater slots. and even if we buy books, we still don't have enough character slots. subs are something none of the competitors are doing, yet here they thought it was a good idea.
what they should be doing, is look where subs actually apply and see whats actually done to make subs worth it. and then apply this here. taking my exemple of DCUO MMO game. - the DCUO game has 3 bundles... basic, which is what the free game is all about... 2 character slot maximum per server. maximum 2000 dollars in game. which is next to nothing. Deluxe, which what you get after buying anything that is an extension of the game. this adds up to 6 character slots per server and give you some money to buy other stuff. this is a deal thing. once it has been gotten, notbody can get it again. Legendary, which is literally... the entirety of the game unlocked for you. like play the game as it was supposed to be played. unlimited characters, unlimited cash. everything unlocked.
now micro transactions are other gears not involved in any of the packages. the same could have quite easily be applied here, but no... they though hero subs and dm subs were enough... but they are not... the proof is that they don't make as much money as they should with this. too many people don't see the need for subbing. this is wrong... subbing should not be about how small it is... it should be how openning it is ! the more you go up in the sub train, the more you unlock. thus giving more money to the developpers because you actually support them.
that's where we stand at when it comes to the community... i'm paying for my DM subs... not because of everything it gives, but because sharing is the only good thing it gives me. what makes all of my players not wanting to buy here while they love the site... well first off, i'm sharing with them, why would they buy ? so yeah sharing is a big mistake. its cool but its detrimental to their revenue. the other problem, charcater slots... my players are limited to 6. buying hero subs just for that is a big no-no. so theres that, no other options to buy stuff, they wanna give money to ddb, but can't because no other options is availlable. thus getting again, turned off by the very company who wants to turn them in. they like physical books... but reality is, there are character builders out there that gives the same deals for free or 2 dollars the game. why would i sub to something just for characters when there is other options out there that cost less.
solution, stop using your servers for charcaters... allow us to import/export characters on our hard drives. problem solved, you can actually get back all that space. this is what fantasy ground is doing. their app is on your desktop not their server. same for your shit. the only thing they keep on their server is your profile and your licences. everything else is on your computer. taking your space, not theirs.
this is my beef with ddb... it feels like they didn't even knew what they were going into when they did this deal. and now they are on a train wreck going straight for the wall, but all they could do was to making it short of the wall and are now hugging it. they are still far from the money maker they should of had from the get go. I love DDB, i love what they are doing, but their business model isn't even a model... its a train wreck.
the only thing they got right was the money from the book costing less then the original book. heck even fantasy ground makes you pay for free content like elemental evil companion. the only reason i'm here is because the books are lke twice cheaper and instead of costing me the full 75$ they cost me like 35$ ! i think thats the only thing they did right. if the subs were giving more, we wouldn'T even care if they were 10 and 15$ instead of 5 and 10. as long as they give more. and i would definitely have a legendary sub. one that gives access to everything !
its unfortunate though, but i would remove sharing. they would get much more subs that way. micro transaction is right, keep it that way... but add more options to it. like character slots !

How about improving the search function? If I type in Orca, a killer whale should at least show up. It's asanine how specific the search function is. Even mispellings aren't recognized, and the "did you mean" is even more worthless because it doesn't acknowledge DnD related things, its essentially a worst version of the google search.

How do you really expect it to find killer whale when you type orca, if orca isn't mentioned even once anywhere?

Wouldn't that be the solution? Maybe have a few interns go through the monsters and list some other alternative identifiers? I would suggest allowing the community to add a tag to monsters (maybe have a threshold of X amount of people suggesting a tag for it to stick) but, the internet is full of toxic people who would think its hilarious to put obscenitites as tags. I don't think it would be hard to have T-Rex, or T Rex set up for the Tyrannosaurus. Changes like these do nothing but increase accessibility, and inclusion for people with certain disabilities. For someone who does everything your signature says you do, thats a vey dense response.
I wanted to suggest allowing the original versions of races that have had changes made to their traits, to be available as subraces, or the new versions to be available as subraces. These races were not free, and as such should not have been modified wholesale with no other option.
That's exactly the kind of info I was hoping for (if not the more positive addition of the content to the compendium). I wasn't able to find anything via search. Thank you. Maybe if more request it here... :)

subs are something none of the competitors are doing, yet here they thought it was a good idea.
what they should be doing, is look where subs actually apply and see whats actually done to make subs worth it. and then apply this here.
taking my exemple of DCUO MMO game.

The ability to allow the DM to hide a magical items features or properties until identified would be ideal.
I wanted to suggest allowing the original versions of races that have had changes made to their traits, to be available as subraces, or the new versions to be available as subraces. These races were not free, and as such should not have been modified wholesale with no other option.
