But the funds used to pay those workers could have been allocated in a different place. Every resource allocated always comes back to two base resources, time and money. Of course there are people who like the dice skins. Bit to me they should be on the priority list as "nice to have, but not right now". While integral systems to having a vtt system operational should have far more priority. None of this front dndbeyonds side is openly communicated though, so its hard for me to know who's working on what and how that progress is. Even as a master tier user. I was really excited when the combat systems were a viable to master users like me, but they ultmiatly were (at first) a clunky implented feature which lacks configurations on several levels.
Things like status effects would be nice to have, currently the best solution is a homebrew item you turn on or off(see "mage armor" as an example) but for shorter effects like haste and the lathergy as a result of haste. If these were modifiers that encounter system could apply to the players character sheets, update In realtime for everyone and clearly show the duration in the encounter tracker and the players char sheet. Then that would be sick and a really good feature. But it's just half baked allot of the time forcing users to come with their own solutions to these problems...
Gotta agree man. I'm finding threads from 2018 asking for the ability to homebrew more spell slots and to add actions to items and we still haven't gotten either. Probably not going to buy more books until the sites completed. It's been literally years.
Stormknight, have you maybe thought about monetizing features such as these?
I understand that dice skins bring money and features such as this don't, but what about if you make it aviailable to subscribers only? Surely this will help you sell the feature to the higher-ups? This feature seems very needed, especially for hardcore DMs.
Please don't hate on me for the suggestion, but I would much rather pay for this feature than not have it at all...
Most likely due to on the technical side of things they knew for certain it was a requirement on the "features" class. So they put it in. But they must not have had a good enough separation of concerns within their code-base (as from what I hear around) it was setup rather haphazardly. Ontop of them requiring that on the development side to actually implement the actions for the feats from the books ect.
I'd imagine they did some hacky stuff for certain items/classes to get them to work in the existing system. Where if you'd check how it's coded its a mangled pile of ducttape.
That at this point is as far as I am concerned the only real reason this hasn't been implemented yet and instead they are waiting for the full system revamp.
TLDR; Your point is valid, although a little flawed due to how the technical side of the website is (most likely) a mess.
Just hopping on to ask for this again. Know it's been a while and I don't have access to the roadmap, but would love to have this see the light of day at some point.
just thought i would ping this thread in the hopes it gets seen again. Im working on creating magical artifacts for my players, but it I cant add actions to items so im having an issue

People like the different dice skins and want new ones.
It's also worth noting that the design people who work on the dice sets aren't people who would be developing the action system for magic items.

And that's not even talking about the UX there...

Would really love for this feature to be added, and I know commenting on the thread might help.
Any news on this yet? I heard somewhere that reworks were underway, but IDK about this topic specifically.

Everything is underway but there are never any ETAs. The first update you will see is when they announce that it works.

Just read the whole thread.. it just a tad embarassing that this hasn't been added. When you can do it in the custom feats.

Just ran into this as an issue. Wanted to add my voice to this thread as a DM who would deeply appreciate this functionality!
Please add this feature.
Any status updates Mr Knight?
It's Mrs Knight (people put their pronouns in their sigs for a reason) and there hasn't been any update on this yet

Do we have an ETA?
My apologies, noted for future. (I don't read signatures, its usually just self promo)
S'all good, just a heads up.
If you want to stay updated on features, I suggest checking out the dev update on Thursdays on Twitch and later on on Youtube

How much R&D costs would this take? At this point I'm ready to write a personal check to cover the costs.
It's been years. Come on.
