I created a character and want to give it to a friend how do I do it?
You have to have that character in a DDB campaign and then “unassign” the character. The other person must either also already have a character in the same campaign with yours, or else they must “join” the campaign via the join link after you have unassigned your character. If they are already in the campaign they can simply “claim” your character as their own. If they are only just joining the campaign they can follow the join link and claim your character as theirs then without needing their own character to start with.
See where not joining a campaign together he is over in California. I want to give him this character because he is new to the game and it be easier for him. I would let them use one of the carriers I’ve built so he can try out the game.
Join a campaign together and give him your character, then he can leave that campaign with that character and move into whichever campaign he wants. You could even join his campaign and give him the character there, once he claims it you will no longer be part of that campaign anymore. Characters can move into and out of campaigns pretty much at will.
One thing to note, there is currently a bug affecting some characters’ ability to join preexisting campaigns. If it happens to you, the workaround is to Copy the character and then join with the copy. (If you do then your friend can have a copy of that character and you can still keep a copy for yourself if you want to. 😉)

Do... Do I need to explain how you don't need to be in the same room together to use a website?
It really isn’t hard, you two don’t have to actually play in the same campaign, just create one for the character swap and then when it’s all over delete the unnecessary campaign.
If you have any further problems post back here and I’ll help you.
i had the same problem and noticed that only characters made after the campaign was formed would show up on the list to add them. I fixed this by taking my older characters and hitting copy then edit the copy out of the name. After that all of the characters could join.
Yes please - how? I am the DM, and try to take care of all the character sheets for my group since they get easily overwhealmed. I made them in the character creator, but now I dont know how to import these characters as the DM into my own campaign? I am new to actively using DnD beyond, so I am probably just missing a button or something, but any help would be greatly appreciated

You'll need to invite yourself just like you invite them. Copy and paste the invite link into your browser url and it'll allow you to insert a character. You'll need to do it one by one as far as I'm aware.

Aye, that worked, thanks for the reply! That solution was kinda unexpected, but what works works I guess XD
This has been an issue long enough that it should have been fixed by now.
Why on earth is there not a simple "add character to campaign" button that does exactly the same thing as pasting the invite link?
Having to copy the link is not an obvious function as the owner of the campaign. It really just looks bad for the company, not even having a button for a function.
I created a character for a friend. How can I "give" it to him? Tried creating a campaign but I don't know how to add that character as unassigned.
HELP.
Use Join Link
Add character.
Go to campaign.
Click unassign next to character.
Other person uses Join link
Other person selects the unassigned character.
Done.

Thank you. I needed to move a character to my son's account.
From the DM Account (or account that already has the character)
I created a campaign. I gave it a name and a description.
I arrived at a screen where I could share a link, Create Unassigned Character, or Create Unassigned Premade Characters. This was really confusing because:
None of my characters showed up to add.
The link wasn't clickable.
There was no button to "Add Your Own Characters", which would be my expectation (Hint to devs.)
I Copied the link, pasted it into a new browser tab, and clicked Enter to go to the link. This took me to a join page. All my characters showed up. This was a bit confusing because:
The Character images have arrow icons, and I thought the arrow was supposed to do something. They arrows do nothing.
Clicking on a character enabled the Join With This Character button.
You can only join 1 character at a time. You can't assign multiple characters.
I clicked on a character, and then clicked the Join With This Character button.
I was taken back to the campaign screen and the character now showed up and it had a nice, straightforward Unassign link,
I clicked the unassign link.
I also sent the player (my son) the join link.
From the Other Player's Account
Open the join campaign link.
The unassigned character was in the list. There was a clear option to join with the unassigned character.
I clicked to join with the unassigned character.
That was it.
Thank you all for this post that helped with my confusion.
This is a crazy system- to send yourself a link to invite your own character to a campaign, I have done this several times and get confused every time. I'm sure you guys can create a better & easier in house link!?

I'm trying to do it with one of mine on my own campaign. Is it possible to get a more detailed description of this process?
