As I like to stay updated with whats going on across the website I am now following most of the megathreads, some of the forum topics and some members and staff. And with lots of these different areas i have started to notice a few things with notifications that make things a little difficult at times and would love to offer a few suggestions.
These notifications seemed to be grouped under the date but with in that they seem to have invisible groups (Members, Threads & Topics), and if there is a notification on any one of the areas you are following with in that group then every notification within that group move to the top of the list even if they are older than some of the notifications within the other groups. This sometimes makes it hard to know what you have read or not.
Also in following threads if you get a notification that there has been a new thread and you click on the top one it takes you to the most recent post (which makes sense as you are clicking on the user who posted to the tread) but it would be nice for there to be a way on the notifications page to make one click to take you to the first unread post rather than the most recent one. The current method to do that is either scroll through all notifications under that thread and try remember what you last read then mostly get it wrong then reread posts until you find something you have not read or to find the thread in the forums and click the small arrow to go there (The arrow option shows that you are already tracking the last unread post so i wouldn't think it would be too much of a stretch to put it in the notifications section.
In relation to the above suggestion it might be a good idea to start with each notification collapsed and when you click on it it takes to the last read, and when you expand then it shows you all items for that thread. Also a potentially way on that expanded list that shows what you have read.
Just some suggestions on what i think could make notifications more streamlined but you might have reasons that notification are the way they are that i haven't thought.
