I am staring at my cleric and clicking on cast and spell slots but I am really not understand how to define which spells I have prepared for the day.
If I click Manage Spells I can see a list of "prepared spells". It doesnt tell me if it is a higher level casting slot of a spell and not sure where that is manipulated to get on that list.
You can switch which spells you have prepared in the “Manage Spells” section. You never need to prepare a spell at a certain level. When you are looking at your character sheet, if you click “cast” next to any spell, you can choose which level slot to use and it automatically spends the slot of that level.
There are now also 0-level spells called Cantrips (that used to be a 1st-level spell) that don’t cost spell slots at all. There is also ritual casting for some spells so you just add 10 minutes to the casting time and don’t need to spend a spell slot for those specific spells if you want to. There is now a Concentration mechanic for some spells as well. Lots has changed.

AD&D 2nd edition in the early '89-93. Clerics and mages memorized the full spell list and only a few spells scaled with levels of the magic user.
I remember. I cut my teeth on D&D in the early ‘90s. Yes, a lot has changed since then.
