Unfortunately, the bonus attack is tied to the Special property, and there is no way to get rid of that. One thing to point out, if you make it a Kensei weapon, it would stay as 2d4 the entire time. The highest that Martial Arts die will get is 1d10, and 2d4 is already considered equivalent to that, so it would never change. It’s not like it would end up getting to 2d10, because the martial arts die replaces the damage die/dice of the weapon.
I'm trying to create a custom repeater crossbow, but trying to do it through magic items just doesn't cut it. It gets really weird. Please add an option for homebrewing "mundane" or ordinary weapons, armor, and items.
This works great for one offs but not so much for a re-occuring mundane item accross players, for example i use hombrewed arrow types based on historical arrow heads and players will fluctuate between having and not having them.
I agree , while the 5e gear list is pretty good , over the years I have amassed a HUGE number of lists with all kinds of mundane equipment . ( All HAIL the great MULTIVERSEL Trading corp. ) That I would like to consolidate into ONE MASSIVE list , and while I'm on the subject , what happened to the redoubtable hand and a half sword ?

Not really what I was talking about , I love the 5e system , but I find the equipment has been over-simplified , Both as far as weapons go , but the more Mundane gear all long time players have a hankering for.

well... if you knew what each weapons were used for, you'd realise there is no such a massive list of actual items... in reality there is only a really few handful of items that we can categorise into very specific types of weapons... daggers, shortswords and long swords, heck even great swords cannot really be taken into account as they are just two handed long swords. of course there are different types of clubs, but in the end, they are just that... clubs.
a chair handle is pretty much the same as a black jack... bonk on the head with enough force and thats it, black out. nunchakus may be really really cool looking and cool using them, but in the end they are the same thing as any other clubs.
what you think is over simplified... is really not just simplified, its also balanced back. if i take your awesome list of items that is so massive... i'll definitely find weapons that are so great that it means i'll never ever use the others. or i will be downgrading my DPS for sake of what... saying i use a weapon that is not even efficient ?
that's why i love 5e for its simplicity, because now... all weapons have their pros and cons. unlike say, 3e where many a weapons were just outright better then others.
all that is not to say why 5e is like this, all that is to say i understand why they did it. and for what it is worth... i do agree that we need to be able to make mundane wepaons. not for sake of diversity, but for sake of those using 5E to play say, modern or future stuff and we do need to make better weapons.

I've been using "Magic Items" and just not giving them any magical properties for this but there are a few places where this doesn't work well. For instance, if you have multiples of a Wondrous Item, they don't aggregate (e.g. like 20 arrows do). Also, with containers (as of now) you can't have custom objects in your backpack, only in inventory. I've found having homebrew items is useful for things like puzzle clues and custom weapons (e.g. a flamberge being a longsword that does piercing damage instead of slashing).
I play an artificer, and like to create a "short - whip - sword". The blade is a set of fragments assembled by a metal cable. The knob has a button to relax or stretch the cable, turning the sword into a whip or retracting it into a short sword. Pressing the button requires a "use an object" action.
Technicaly, i use homebrew magic item creation, and a short sword as a base weapon, and add the reach property.
The thing here is : as it count as a magic weapon, and not a mundane weapon, ... i can not use my artificier infusion on it. Does someone knows how to achieve this ?
ps : excuse me for my poor english, i'm really not fluent ^^.
5 years of this thread and we still can't create custom mundane items and weapons. Pathetic lack of any care by those who run this site about the actual desires of their paying customers.
As per previous posts, it's not designed to allow the creation of custom non-magical weapons and armor.
This is why any workaround are exactly that and don't work as well as you might like - you're trying to do something that the system was designed not to do.
All I want is use the existing functionality to create basic mundane items for nonpublished personal use. The system already has that functionality. There is no reason not to open it up to users.
Ex. You have a ‘ruby’ costing 5,000 gp available. I have a basic rules spell requiring a ‘ruby’ worth 50 gp. Can I get a 50 gp size anything resembling the ruby already created by DnD beyond? No. Instead I’m stuck with a magical item titled ‘ruby.’ Not sure what everyone else playing a wizard is doing to keep track of their inventory, when it’s a required material component.
Sack of flour with 3 uses? 10 gp of charcoal for a spell? A 5 lb bag of ball bearings? A pencil? Apparently beyond this site. I might as well use paper. Because having some functionality for some items but no functionality for others still compromises the inventory system for weight, storage capacity, and creates multiple places to keep track of things for no reason.
Dnd beyond will never be worth subscriber money if it doesn’t fix glaring functionality flaws like this, no matter how many overpriced dice skins it sells.
one has to look at what they did to understand why we have had not much advancement on anything else...
first off, they asked about 6 years ago what people wanted most, they had a trello and a voting process. the literal first thing people asked for, was a full blown VTT for beyond and over 4000 votes were compiled with anything else being a mere 1000 and below. so thats what they did, they created tools for the VTT first. all that while still maintaining the number of books WotC produces per year, which is 4 books. thats a lot of work for a small team like beyond. now with WotC having bought them, its gonna be much easier to work since they now get way ahead of the curve by getting info before the releases. unlike their time before the buying. that along the fact that they worked for like 3 different companies. in like 2 years. each companies telling them to stop working on such and such and work on this and that instead.
so what did we get during that time... - complete rewrites of how things are compiled for informations. (message system) - thanks to the message system, they now have a game log capability which was necessary for VTT purposes. - dice, needed for VTT system, couldn't be done without the message system - Encounter Builder, needed for VTT otherwise you'd have to import everything manually into VTT. - Maps (the actual VTT who probably took ages to complete) mind you we're not talking actual WotC VTT whcih WotC is wroking on with unreal engine 5. Maps and the new VTT aren't the same. MAPS is web based, the untitled VTT from WotC will be fully 3D and will be fully beyond capable. but will probably be a separate software. - now they need to redo all maps, redo all tokens, redo everything, not including the new features people will be asking for the VTT.
i'd say all that, considering the level of professionnalism they are doing, unlike other softwares who just punch thing as fast as they can and then deal with bugs and uglyness later. i'm not surprised this to have taken years to do. Above VTT, an extension for Beyond, took about 3 years to becomes released under 1.0 and to this day, they are not even to 1.0.
i'd also say this much... MAPS do come with a bunch of changes to campaigns, meaning we can now expect campaign notes to not just be regular boxes in the near future. or just campaign management to actually become a thing since they now allow us to upload our own maps to DDB. so i'm hoping for a lot of changes in the next year or two.
all this is why we didn't see much changes... because people wanted a full blown VTT integrated to beyond. and the company had to completely redesign their stuff to accomodate that.

all the gems, arts and gold pieces have been added long ago. all you can do is literally add that piece and then manually change its cost in your customise tool on the sheet. been using a pouch as container with literally my pearl and other ingredient for my wizard ever since container has been released.

Would be great to get this feature, I've been building so many "magic" items that aren't magic ...
So design it better...

Heads up. Been a full 6 years. Nothing.
you can create non magical custom items in the manage inventory part of the character sheet.
Custom non magical weapons are still beyond us sadly
