That is not a solution, its a temporary solution at best. a good exemple of that is that its not an actual item, it is something that is on your sheet only. and thus every players who buy a gun will have to create their own weaponry !
also, it still desn't allow you to add properties to the weapon. which is the main reason for this.

I would only like to add, to further frustrate the issue, there apparently appears to be an internal gear-customization feature not accessible to users, but could be. A good example of how not having homebrew gear and equipment is absurd is creating custom packs for backgrounds. For the Haunted One background, there is a custom Monster Hunter's Pack not available when creating a custom background, yet there is no way that backpacks can be customized. Backpacks are equipment that populate a character's inventory with other official DnDBeyond items, but in the way WotC and DndBeyond apparently want us to have it, we have to create a wonderous item- tagged "backpack", that is just a name and a list of mundane items the player has to manually add one by one. Why is it so absurd to ask for a way to just create custom backpacks, as mechanically its just a populating table of gear already in official DnD?
Its not about publishing and competing with each other to make the coolest content. Its about a platform that DM's can use to eliminate the tedious parts of DnD, such as having to keep track of item count by erasing and filling in, or automatically filling in lists and populating sections of a charater sheet, or tweaking everything that comes in the game, not just some of it. And when you have other platforms like FantasyGrounds that supports official books and also supports full customization, it really is making the whole premium cost of full DndBeyond look overpriced when basic, core things like item customization, or background-specific tables in character creation (another topic not fixed by WotC and DndBeyond because the official Character Sheet "doesnt have a field to enter them", even though its something even the Player's Handbook backgrounds have, and so official content), it all points to a business not paying attention to its customer's wants and needs from their platform...
We really do need this. I'm currently paying in a Homebrew campaign where my character has gone from being a Medium character to a Tiny character due to the Gods of the world resurrecting me and messing with my body (Though I honestly really love the changes that have come from it, it's made my Rouge like ten times better). However, my character has to use "Tiny" versions of everything, meaning I need a way for to reduce the weight of everything by a quarter, I need to be able to change the damage die of my items. Having proper custom items would be a god send in this situation because I have to use a digital sheet an this site is the best way for me to do it with my disabilities. Without this feature my I have to us other ways of trying to figure out my encumbrance which is really difficult for me to do quickly.
Totally agree. I made a custom polearm for one of my players, which has got reach and finesse, as we both feel that this combination is really missing from normal weapons, but we cant make it here.
he means create new mundane items as homebrew items because we'd like to create our own guns instead of just having those from the DMG which are way too OP. also that section only adds regular items that have no bearing on actions and the likes. if i want to create a staff for attack, i cannot. hit wont be added as a weapon like say the swords.

There's no context other than he wants "mundane items" and he may not know that there is a way create mundane items. So I think I responded correctly.
If he did mean homebrew items, such as weapons like you're asking for then you are correct.
Then you should start reading the tread you are posting in. Cause its all in it and he said bump which means he just want this tread not to die.
This thread is about creating homebrew mundane items such as weapons which do not happen even in homebrew magic items. The best we have is a choice of mundane item with no way to create our own.
As mentionned... If you read the thread you would know. And clearly you dont know what bump means either. And this is called an educated guess based on facts.

The thread is called "Creating non-magical gear and other items" nowhere does it say weapons.
Additionally, the term "mundane items" does not include weapons, so once again, he asked for mundane items. I informed him that D&D Beyond can already create mundane items.
Seriously... Just read the thread... There is about 2 pages of weapons demands !!! But whatever man... Continu to do the same thing you told me and imagine what he meant...

I also need this. I'm running a low-magic, homebrew setting that has lots of cool new equipment. I would also love if this could support making new homebrew kits, e.g. I have a few like glassblower's kit, archeologist's kit, investigator's kit, etc.
Another bump...as my DM allowed a special sword for my character, but now I cannot add it as a mechanically sound option. Normally I wouldn't care, but now that we're stuck at home...well, it means D&D just became an online hobby for me. I read through the comments first, and it seems like it is a wanted feature. The posts by the staff member were (and likely through no fault of his own) unhelpful and the reasoning behind it being a no was pretty condescending, hell, practically infantalising the userbase. Tell you what, just another thing that adds to the 'not going to pay for this platform' list that seems to be ever growing...seriously D&D Beyond, the dollars are walking out the door, and you're waving a cheery goodbye.
I agree that we need more tools for gear and weapons homebrewing. Can you tell us what the mechanical elements of the "special sword" are? We might be able to help you find a workaround while we wait for DDB to improve the homebrew system.
I can maybe help you get your “special sword” at least close if you give us the details. To be clear, DDB is working on improving the homebrew creator, but they had their hands tied by the game’s publisher WotC, in the beginning. It has taken almost 3 years for Adam to convince Wizards that their fear of homebrew was hurting their customers.
It's a Dex linked two handed blade, 2d4 damage. Essentially it is the double bladed scimitar, but loses the 'special' property and the bonus attack so that it can be a Kensei weapon for my monk (and thus slowly increases in damage, and remains non-magical so that my monk ability to make it temporarily magical and +X will actually get used). Honestly, I think it's pretty awesome.

Looks like you can now create "custom items" via you inventory in your character sheet, wich fills most if my need for mundane items...thanks !
A suggestion : add more options in the ''customize" pannel of weapons and armors (like damage override, armor class override, etc...)

It would be great to have this! Can anything think of a reason why this would be tricky to implement? Seems strange to not have this feature.

Please make this happen.
Bump to get homebrew mundane items created. Pretty please.
You can already add mundane items. In your character sheet, go to manage equipment and there is a selection for custom items.

This would be great. I'm currently trying to make a mundane gun but is causing me more issues that I would like.
Bump!! I would love to be able to make some specialty beverages for my campaign and not have them considered as magical items...
