I've been a DM for awhile now, and have been using the magic item creator a lot to develop some home-brew options for my PC's. Whilst fighting a cult, they came across a dagger, which had an illusory blade as opposed to a physical blade. I thought this would be a fairly simple item to make, just replace damage type from piercing to physic. But no matter what i have tried to do with magic item creator, the item never displays 1d4 physic damage. There is a real possibility I'm missing something obvious, but I've tried a fair few options, and can't seem to figure it out. Replace damage type never fully removes the piercing. Any help would be greatly appreciated
After that you will need to refresh the character sheet for the character that has the dagger. You might just need to wait a while for the new info to push through, sometimes logging out and back in helps with that, sometimes you just have to be patient. (I had to wait overnight once and then it was suddenly there like it had been the whole time. 🤷♂️)
Still nothing. I was able to get it to show 1d4 piercing and 1d4 psychic. But that disappeared when give to to my PC in a campaign. The dagger deals 2d4, so I tried replacing the damage type, into psychic, dealing 2d4. That didn't work. I tried replacing damage type into psychic, then giving a bonus 1d4 psychic damage separately. That got the dagger I mention above, but when I gave it to my PC, it went back to a 1d4 Piercing Dagger.
Realistically, we can just remember the damage type, and the bonus damage.

All you need is this:

Ah, I've tried that. But I've always been impatient. Thank you, I'll give it a day.
Happy to help. Sometimes it happens right away, sometimes it takes longer. I have no idea what causes that difference.

Yeah, but it shouldn’t be an issue. Do me a favor and run a test for me. Add these to your collection and see if they are behaving properly for you:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/1348252-dwarven-hammer (This should be a Handaxe that does Bludgeoning damage)
https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/1503041-mercy (This should be a sickle that does an additional 1d4 Poison damage)
https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/1271954-saber-1 (This should be a +1 Rapier that does slashing damage)

I just tested it and it worked. I did this:
Create Magic Item (used Dagger, +1 as the template.)
Changed name to Psychic Dagger, changed description, set weight to 1, hit SAVE
Went down to the Modifier and hit “edit”
Changed Modifier to “Replace Damage Type” set Modifier Subtype to “Psychic” and deleted the fixed value. Hit SAVE
Added a second Modifier. Set Modifier as “Damage” set Subtype as “Psychic” set Die Count as “1” and Die Type as “d4” and hit SAVE
Hit SAVE on main weapon.
That worked like a charm. Try to do that and see if it works.

I don't think you'll be able to see the images.
I've followed that, but I still get piercing as the damage, I'm going to leave it overnight and see if it works,
thank you for all of your help btw
Fingers crossed for you.

I just saw an interesting tip. Try updating the version number and re-saving the item. 🤷♂️
