I just installed the new Player App on my iPhone 11 with the latest iOS version. I get the error “We couldn’t load your characters” with an option to retry. I’ve confirmed I’m logged in appropriately and have no different results when I retry.
UPDATE: I turned off my VPN on my phone and it started working with no issues.
I’ve been having the same issue. Also when trying to use the mobile site instead of the app, every time I click to view characters I’ve created I get an error message but no error code.
I am having the same issue and I am on an actual computer. Whatever I hover my cursor over on my character, whether view or edit, the web address is the same, which just results in reloading the page. Can someone please help?
It is an issue on NordVPN's side, and not DDBs. The linked troubleshooting page for Nord suggests that its the CyberSec feature, so see if you can disable that for DDB.

Another time, since you are working with a browser and not the mobile player app, please start a separate thread.
A VPN is a 'Virtual Private Network', and it's software you would buy. It's function is to make your computer seem like it's connected to another network. ANY network, all over the world! NordVPN is one company that sells such software, same name.
For example; when I turn on my computer I open NordVPN and choose a location (a server, which is on some other network) in the USA. Yet, I live in Canada! So, any hacking bots, etc. will become confused. And I am protected!
There are no web browser extensions that do this. The only exception is the completely anonymous web browser called Tor. It's the only browser that, when you open it, makes a random network connection out into the whole world, protecting your location and identity.
Thanks for responding. I'm pretty sure I don't have VPN then. Browser extensions maybe, but no software that I downloaded voluntarily. It's worth mentioning that I've tried this on two different computers and neither one is able to access my character sheet, so I think it may be something to do with the website, or more specifically, with my profile. I hover over View and Edit with my cursor and it shows that the web address is the same as the main character sheet screen. It doesn't seem like my character sheets are specially aligned to my profile.
Edit: the same thing happens when I try to access the character sheet from my phone.
I was able to work it out and it was as I thought. My profile name (that I didn't choose) was messing up any possibility of viewing or editing my character sheets. I changed my nickname in profile or account and it took it this time, and I am now able to view and edit my sheet. Thanks all!!
No VPN, fails on wifi and on cellular data. "We couldn't load your characters" is the only error messages. Android Moto Z4 latest version of patches and updates to the OS and newly downloaded app.

It’s the underscore (_) in your username. You need to request a name change credit and change your user name.
I'm not saying your wrong or that it is not the right answer - but why on earth can't the stupid software handle that???? I'm very unlikely to want to change my username to make this application work..
Assuming I wanted to change my username I am unclear where to make that request. I am flabbergasted that the software cannot handle a username that is not at odds with username rules for the site.

I don’t understand it either, but I presume it is related to using already existing authentication options (first twitch, now also Google and maybe apple) that allow a wider range of characters in usernames than the infrastructure they are working with.
I have a very similar problem, though it is very strange. I see the same screen, but only on one particular character and only on the dndbeyond mobile app. The character sheet in the browser works perfectly fine. I am so confused, as it just came out of nowhere, I previously could access it with no problems. I was thinking about opening a new thread, but I don‘t want to spam xD Does anybody have any suggestions?
About my setup: I have an iPad on the newest OS (15.1) with a hotspot from my phone (on which the character is accessable flawlessly).
my iPad will knot load my characters. i have tried uninstalling d&d beyond then reinstalling. tried logging off then logging back in. it will knot work. keeps saying looking for characters and kicks me out.

If you have a VPN client working on your phone, turn that off and see if it works. That's what did it for me.

Do you use a VPN? Any browser extensions?

How can find out if I have VPN or browser extensions?

You would have had to download and install browser extensions. They serve a number of purposes, and some of them interfere with DDBs functioning.

This thread is where you request a new nickname. Please read the instruction in the first post of the thread before posting: https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/bugs-support/65846-display-name-change-request-thread-v2

I am pretty sure it is not a problem with the underscore - I have an underscore in my username and the app works flawlessly.
Could you send me the link to the character or its ID through a direct message? We are going to investigate it.

Okay it started working again :) still don‘t know what the problem was or if it will return again…
